Ima - You kept your 1 vette from 1978?? Whew! It's almost as old as I am, I can't imagine keeping a car that long. Of course, we don't have fun cars like that. I am saving to pay cash for a fun car though.

My understanding of the Jones' is that they can't "afford" the lifestyle that they lead.

If you can afford it then your name is West, you're not in this mess.

If you know full well that you are already in debt and still continue to shop and keep up this facade of being wealthy, then, You are a Jones' or a Jones wannabe.

My desire to keep up with the Jones was cured by watching my family. I see my parents, who save then buy, and have lots of nice things, but what they want, not what others say they should want. I then look at my aunt and uncle, who buy the latest, or what's 'in style', on credit. I always thought they were so cool when I was younger, now I see that my parents live so much more authentically. I also see that my parents will be able to retire comfortably. At 44 my uncle is chasing 'hot' stocks, hoping to make money b/c he has to play catch up for retirement. Keep up with the Jonese? NO THANKS!

I think we have built houses for a lot of the "Jones" It is really hard to get money from them, because they don't have any. They are always looking for the next "big deal"
