Do You Like to Travel?

Do you enjoy traveling? I am one of those people who doesn't like traveling. And, I have finally come to accept this about myself but people find it odd. I guess I find it odd too!
Anyway, there are several reasons I don't like it. I don't sleep well away from home. I tend to get carsick. I hate traffic and crowds of people. I have allergies and newer environments bother me and so forth. So, for me, leaving home is a grind and just not something I relish.

DBF and I LOVE traveling. We are mostly outdoors people, so our trips revolve around hiking, seeing wildlife, snorkeling, etc. I am constantly daydreaming and planning the next trip. My next big goal is a sabbatical to Peru to do a Spanish immersion program and see the country. Because of the stuff we do while travelling, sleeping at night usually isn't a problem - we're exhausted by the hiking or whatever we did that day. I too hate crowds of people, so we make efforts to avoid the crowds - up early, go in the off season, and once you get off the main road a little bit, the crowds thin out considerably. I am very prone to seasickness, but will happily get on a boat if the end result is worth it to me - I just spent a month on a boat seeing the Falklands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula and despite the seasickness it was the best trip I've ever been on.

If you don't like traveling, I wouldn't worry about it. I could certainly save a ton of money if I didn't have the wanderlust.

I love traveling. I love feeling out of my element. I love being challenged and I love feeling like a tiny ant in a big world. But my fiancehatesit. He would spend his life happily if he never left one town his whole life.
Sometimes it's hard because I have to keep him positive when we do travel, but he has taught me that jetsetting and visiting exotic places is not always better than curling up on your couch with a your dog, or driving down the street to meet a friend for drinks.

Just kidding. Everybody is different. We don't all have the same likes and dislikes. Makes life interesting.

We LOVE to travel. I've discussed our travels many times here. We go to Disney World every year in the fall. We take a 1 or 2 week vacation each summer and often 1 week in the spring. And many day trips or weekend trips throughout the year as well. Just to give you an idea, my daughter is 12 and has visited 16 US states, been to Disney World 14 times, been on 3 cruises and has been to Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Belize, St. Thomas and Puerto Rico. And just today my wife and I had a conversation about possibly going to Israel next summer (I've been there but she and our daughter have not).

All of that said, I'm a more adventurous traveler than my wife. I like to wander and explore new places. She prefers to play it safe, take organized tours, stick to the main street, etc. When we were in Mexico a couple of years ago, she was very uneasy walking through town. I wanted to explore more but she wanted to stay in one small area where the bus let us off. She doesn't mind wandering quite as much when we are in the US but gets more uneasy when we're out of the country.

Yes and no.

There are certain places I like to visit, and I tend to return there over and over. There are definitely places that are still on my list to visit.

I like historical sites, architecture, and museums. There are certain cities and resorts I enjoy. I'm not into beaches or outdoor activities. I don't do roadtrips. I hate nature. My idea of "roughing it" is a hotel that doesn't offer room service.

I definitely find traveling to be a hassle! I always figure that if a trip is worth going on it has to clear the "annoyance overhead" factor. That is, it had better be good enough to make up for the vagarities of traveling. Some places we've found, happily, are.

Even when I find somewhere I like to go, a week is usually enough for me. After that I'm sick of rich food, strange beds, and public toilets. I start adding up how much it costs and missing my cats.

Traveling, for me, is definitely one of those things where a little is good and more is definitely NOT better.

If you've found you don't care for it, more power to you! Focus on what you do like and tell anyone who questions your preferences to sit & spin!

I like once I get to the location, but I despise the actual traveling aspect. If it wasn't for my wife making arrangements, then I would not do it. I travel for work and have to fly and drive, so the thought of doing that for vacation just crushes my spirits.

My husband and I were just talking yesterday about how we would love to get away somewhere! My dream is to travel extensively once the kids get older.
We take mini vacations now, but with our kids at the ages the are (7,5,3, and 10 1/2 months), we don't venture to far from home!
I always envious of people who travel regularly (which certainly includes you, DisneySteve!)

Travel tends to just tire me. I like the idea of it... but then get there and unless someone else has planned the agenda or I planned it out ahead of time... then I don't feel like doing anything except lounging. We drove down to OBX for our first family vacation, although it was in the off season and the beach water was cold... for the most part I didn't feel like doing anything except going to the pool or hot tub.

Now, amusement parks... like Busch Gardens or DisneyWorld... I'm all over the place. Water parks are another thing I love... I guess I just don't like the ocean here. I've lived in San Diego and Virginia Beach and still refuse to go in the water... I'm used to seeing my feet in the water and soooo miss Hawaii. We're considering vacationing down to Florida one year cause I heard they have blue water. But I'm so finicky sometimes that something that sounds fun right now, may not sound fun to me in the moment I get there. Sooo we don't travel much, maybe one trip a year MAX.

Once my daughter is grown, I anticipate my wife and I doing a lot more traveling. The main thing that ties us down now is working around a school schedule. We won't travel during spring break or winter break because we refuse to deal with the crowds or the higher prices. And there are many places we won't go during the summer due to the weather. My wife and I did Disney World during the summer before our daughter was born and swore we would never do it again. It just wasn't fun between the crowds and the 95 degree weather.

For the most part, yes. But now that we live away from family our 'vacations' now involve going back to visit. For our honeymoon we went to Amsterdam, Barcelona then drove down the coast of Italy. Of course now that we have 2 kids any vacations we take are going to be closer to home and simpler.

Heck yeah, I love to travel. I like the sights and people and foods and how different the world is from home. I don't enjoy travel as much for work (besides them paying for everything and per diem), but for play I'll happily go pretty much anywhere. Too bad the dollar is so weak now.

But different strokes for different folks. Must be hard if you're physically uncomfortable in a new place because of allergies or a bad back.

Traveling is such a nice hobby, yet an expensive one...but the happiness and excitement cannot be paid by a mere money..it well remain within...

Going into a new place, meeting different people, and exploring the world is just a beautiful experience..

I absolutely love travelling but I am the outdoorsey type so don't have to deal with crowds. I prefer to take my time travelling so we don't have to rush and tend not to plan things out too much so we can do whatever we are in the mood to do. Despite the tendency to eat more on vacation, I have yet to have a vacation where I dropped less than 3 lbs. Just too active.

We difinitely LOVE traveling. However, not so much right now because of little kids we've got (well, one is still in my belly ). At time being, I try not to read or hear where people travel because I envy them . Hopefully in 3-5years we'll be able to plan longer trips again. Maybe my in-laws will be strong enough to care for 2 kiddos, so we'll drop them off at their home in Germany and we'll take off to check out some European country. That's my dream, off course.

I love to travel. It just feels great to experience other country's cultures and see what they are like. I have also been planning to go on a cruise some time later this year. If you make all the money in the world and you don't enjoy it, what's the point of having that money?

I love to travel and wish I could do more of it. We take about 1 major trip per year or so. Love it.

I love to travel. I'm an addict. But my DH loves safer travelling, like Disneysteve's wife. More tours or "safer" vacations.

Me I like off the beaten paths and harder travelling like backpacking.

But we compromise and go to more safer places because at least my DH will go. I still can't get him to India.

He'll do europe and stuff but I feel it's so vanilla and we can do it with kids. Without kids I want to go places I worry would not be kid friendly.

Traveling takes up a large portion of our budget. We try and do 2 small in the US trips plus 1 outside the US trip a year. This year is kind of crazy since were getting married. Two in US trips, a trip to Mexico and a Cruise.

Choosing the location is usually the way we save money. We sleep on the couches of relatives and spend like we do at home. Were young though, so that isnt difficult.
