Employment: Online tutoring

I'm a former teacher of a high demand subject: math.
Does anyone have experience with any of the online tutoring companies?

I am thinking this might be a great way to bring in some extra money starting next fall.

I, too, am a math tutor (used to teach at a community college), but I haven't frequented or really used an online service. I've gone to Craigslist and had a lot of success there with finding students. I am registered with Tutor Directory - Find Tutors or Music Instructors ::.

Hopefully someone here can answer your question a little better than that.

SnoopyCool - I also used to teach community college. I hadn't taught for a while and then last fall I fell into a tutoring position through a friend. The pay was decent but it was far from my house and it ended up eating up my whole evening. I like the idea of being an online tutor though - something I can do from my house.

I live near a large university so I also have the opportunity to do some other education related paying gigs every once in a while.

I just graduated with a degree in Business Education. I want to start tutoring for computers. Not online tutoring, but like private computer lessons for children & adults.

I have a friend that tutors at tutor.com. She said it's an easy way to pick up some $$.

I think I, too, signed up at tutors.com . I've never used it, though.

Yes, it seems to be. I know she tutored for them for a while. I think you have to go through a training course first (I don't think it's paid but it's free). You pick the hours you work and you get paid one rate if no one comes on for tutoring and a higher rate if you actually do some tutoring. You *could* sit around for a couple hours on the computer and have no students, but you still get paid - just not as much. I would think you'd be busy enough as a Math tutor, though.
