I'd vote for dancing or a movie. And if you don't have Tivo or a DVR on your TV, get it ASAP! It's so much more relaxing to be able to pause and rewind when the baby interrupts a key moment in the show you're watching.

Take advantage of bringing the kids when eating out for the first 3-6 months -- seriously! At this age you can leave them in the car carrier while you eat. They'll either sleep, drink a bottle, or mom can nurse at the table (there's a great product called a "Hooter Hider" that's way easier than a blanket over the shoulder.) From 6-12 months restaurants are harder but still workable as they sit in a high chair and you can keep them distracted with babyfood and toys. Once they get to be about 18 months, restaurants become much more difficult, and you'll find your self playing tag team just to get a bite in. (With twins it may be completely impossible to eat out!)

A nice dinner (someplace you don't see kids) and a movie sounds nice. Or my husband and I love to go to the symphony or jazz concert. If you want to do something, try dinner and putt putt golf or even bowling. Enjoy your time before kids!!! Whatever you decide, take your time when you are out. Once the kids come home, I find that when we go out we are usually checking the clock a lot because we want to be home around the time we gave our babysitter and to avoid a huge babysitting bill.

going on a date with your wife is great because we rarely get a chance to spend this time. If i had ONE night than dance the whole night and drink more 'n more beers which make these kind of moments memorable. At last when my legs hang over we would sleep for a hour!

I think for the first few months you will be doing a lot of dating at home. Make those dates special. Whatever you do, don't forget that the foundation of your home is based on the relationship of you and your wife. Your boys will look to you to see how to treat women, so date, date, date! Woo her, because she is going to be tired and may feel not-so-[insert pretty, fabulous, sexy, etc.] sometimes, and she needs to know how wonderful she is.

Okay, so this may not happen to you, but it was my experience and DH stepped-up to the plate and knocked it out of the park. I will forever sing his praises

We went over to a friends house and had a bonfire, came home, then picked up DS#1 the next day.

That sounded lovely! And probably wasn't too expensive either.

Movies, plays, theater. Anything where you have to be stationary & quiet for any length of time.

Your evening sounds great, Jim. Congrats on #1 coming home!
