Where would you travel?
I put aside $3000 for a week long vacation with a friend planned for this summer - the plans fell through so she can no longer go and the trip was planned based around her parent's vacation house. So I have $3000 set aside for a trip and nowhere to go. I'm looking for creative suggestions on where you would travel if you had $3000 to spend.

I'm not sure $3,000 would cover it, but I'd like to go to Prague.

Can you narrow it down a little for us? What type of vacations do you enjoy - lying on the beach sunning yourself or hiking in the mountains, touring historic sites or shopping at quaint shops and galleries, relaxing by a nicely landscaped pool or trying your luck at the casino?
Without any additional information, I'd suggest a cruise. $3,000 would give you plenty of options.

Out of the box... how about one of those fantasy camps where for a week you can be a guitarist, or a restaurant chef, or an airplane pilot,....

Sweeps, need a travel partner? I would like to go to eastern Europe. Doesn't even matter much where.

I would go to a spa in Utah. Hike, bike, take in the scenery, get a massage, a facial, eat great food, read books and relax.
Although, it would be a little hot in the summer. Wait until fall?

you could buy a wii for $400, and buy guitar hero game for another $75, and the guitar for another $75 and save more than the vacation would cost if you wanted to be a fantasy guitarist.

Would love to travel with you, but my wife would probably take exception to it. I've heard it is fantastic there, and your dollar stretches further than it does in Western Europe.

Where is your starting point Marla? When do you want to go? Avoid school holidays to keep flight prices down.

Europe is really expensive right now so I would suggest going to Buenos Aires where the dollar still goes pretty far. You should be able to fly round trip for under $1000 and stay in a cute guest house for around $50-$60/night. The food is affordable and the people are so nice. For about $5, you can take a nightly 3-hour tango lesson at the National Academy of Tango on Plaza de Mayo, meet lots of other tourists and have a unique and wonderful vacation. Bring the camera, dancing shoes and enjoy!

I've been to Europe three times in the past several years, and $3000 would more than cover a week.

I too would suggest a cruise, they are good bargains as the room, transportation, food, and many types of entertainment are included! Just pick anywhere you've always wanted to go, I'm sure you'll be able to find things in your price range. I LOVE to travel!! Have fun!

One week beach all-inclusive in the Carribean. It's extremely relaxing, I just got back from Cuba 3 weeks ago, it's so great, it feels like I've been away for 3 weeks!
Or one week in a big European city? Vienna, London (budget a bit tight, but still possible I think), or Prague? Paris is nice as well, but less easier unless you speak French.

How about London or other places in the U.K? If you want to stay in the U.S., a few places I would consider would be New England or New Mexico.

If I could go anywhere, I think I'd return to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. It was the most beautiful, relaxing vacation I've ever had.

If you are a skier, I would definatly planning a week long trip based on good snow forecast and go skiing in Alta, Utah. If you are not a skier than I would back steve for the cruise. There is nothing cooler in my opinion than eating every night with a menu with NO PRICES! You can order double and triple of everything if you like.
