Default Gas Prices at $4

I knew that they were going to get to $4, but not this soon. I just stopped by my local gas station and the price was $3.95 for regular unleaded. I've noticed that it is also carrying over into the prices of food. Is anyone else seeing gas and food prices eating into their monthly budget?

Yeah, I didn't expect it until Summer....

I'm paying about $3.66 per gallon here in California.... but I don't buy name "brand" gas. Just cheap stuff that my old 4-cylinder Honda doesn't seem to have a problem with. Since now I only drive <100 miles per week for both work and grocery shopping, my gas consumption has gone down.

And since DH & I bought a hybrid for replacement of his clunker, he's paying a bit less for quantity he now uses, but the higher price means that we still are within our total gasoline budget. Once it does go over $4, then I suspect that we'll see a difference then.

But yes, food prices have gone way up here. Unfortunately, not much we can do about any of it.

The problem is really with the trucks that deliver the food to the groceries; they are getting hit realy hard. Diesel fuel is more costly then what we use and they use a whole lot more of it than we do by pulling their loads. The cost of sending anything I suspect is going to rise, as will plane fares and anything related to the consumption of gasoline.

Don't mean to rub it in, but here in my small town outside Tulsa we have 3.03, two different faststops are having a little war. I bought milk at the new faststop next to us for 3.62 which is cheaper than walmart. Overall, prices are definatly up.

Gas and Food definitely UP.

Yesterday on my bread and milk run I noticed the chip aisle as I was walking by. The bottom of the line chips that normally sell for 99 cents every day of the year? Now, $1.19, BUT a twist - they were on SALE for 99 cents. I fear it's just the beginning of getting us used to the higher price! A few pennies? Okay, but a 20 cent jump and multiply that by most things in the store? OUCH!

For instance our store brand bread for a small loaf normally sits at 79 cents pretty steadily. Yesterday the same small loaf? $1.09. That was the cheapest loaf in the store.
