My family & I have a game we play, usually when we are taking a break from being tourists or shopping at the mall - resting our feet. We put a penny on the sidewalk, sit back and watch, and try to guess who will pick it up. It can be quite entertaining. So if you pick a penny up and hear some giggling, it's just me and my kids.

(BTW, I pick up pennies.)

I always stop to pick it up - and if someone gives me a funny look, I just tell them it's good luck. If my kids are with me, I let them grab it. It really makes their day

Here's a little college lore I stumbled upon. It is sometimes important to put the penny back where you found it:

"The statue of President Truman in Pickler Memorial Library is said to bestow good fortune on any student who borrows a penny from his hat for a test. Beware, however, for any good fortune might be negated if the penny is not returned the same day. These 'Truman Pennies' are placed by students studying for tests in the library, and it is also considered good luck to place a penny in the hat."

That's awesome! I'll have to remember that!

As for me, I'm a silver or better to open kind of girl. Bending over for pennies is just not worth the effort anymore--someone moved the floor down a lot farther than it was when I was a kid!

Sometimes kids here glue a coin to the floor and watch adults trying to pick it up!

The funniest thing I saw in a long time was a group of teenagers who tied a fishing line to a wallet and left it on the floor - then when someone bent down to pick it up, they'd jerk it out of reach!

We pick them up and put them in the "charity " bank. The kids love doing that. If they see a coin in a store they give it ti a clerk but if we can't tell where it came from they told me we should give it to someone who needs it.

Picking pennies is more of a personal matter for me than merely pinching pennies for the bank. Everytime I see one, it is a reminder for me to pray for the government, our leaders and our soldiers who are out there fighting. It was a decision I have committed myself to do.

This leaves no thoughts about embarrassments with picking up pennies when other people are around because I think of what the soldiers daily life is like is nothing in comparison with my time.

I will think more futhure into seeing if I should save these pennies in a small piggy bank to save enough to send a care package or something to a soldier or two.

our friend virgil finds twenty dollar bills in parking lots of big stores, and along side the roads when he walks... he always finds money and he goes and buys lottery tickets with the money... once he won enough money to buy a new car... for real.... our friend sassy finds coins... mostly pennies, i waited for her one day, in the shade, i might add, while she removed pennies from a black top road in our village... her nails were black and she laughed insanely.... i would not get my nails in that stuff... lol... one time i purchased a pair of pants at a dept store and came home washed them, wore them, went to put a hanky in a pocket and pulled out twenty bucks, someone had left in them... money really comes to me, in other ways it seems.... i can recall when our friend shane would make us save aluminum cans for a year and we did for many years, just so he could take his kid to an indians game in cleveland.... i think he has about 20 ppl. saving for him.. i finally told him i had to rinse, smash and store them, so, we fiinally stopped and now they recycle them from our trash co...

Just a quick tip: You can shine up a penny with a pencil eraser. Just erase the crud.

Nice to know I'm also not the only one! I'm always looking for money on my walks and the most I have found is a folded twenty.

Going through my receipts for this year's taxes, I found $55 in an envelope for a car insurance payment(from March)! Must have written then check and forgot to deposit the cash!

We save coins and cans to take grandkids on special days in the summer. We live close to Lexington and there are all kinds of 'day trips' within a 30 mile radius. We pack a picnic & blanket and they get a kick out of eating on the ground.

I will even go farther and pick up an aluminum can. The way I look at it is I am picking up litter and thats my reward for it. Since I am forced to recycle garbage anyway I might as well get the money for it.

I don't think I would bother picking up anything less than a $1 bill--depending on my financial situation at the time.

Today I picked up a penny on my walk. I guess that answers the question.

Poor growing up and so I pick up any money on the ground. If it is dirty I'll clean it. It all adds up and it is better in my pocket than on ther ground!
