Default Starting My Home Remodel - Wish me Luck!

We are in the process of remodeling our old home. It is empty and we planned to completely remodel and then sell our current house. Today, the contractor started. I hope things turn out as planned!

You have a big job ahead of you, but it will be completely worth it. Good luck!

Congratulations and enjoy it. We gutted our house in Orlando and did the renovations ourselves which was a great experience and very fulfilling....for two months anyway, then I got a job transfer and had to sell

Not sure how handy you are, but if you can do any of the work yourself, you can save a ton of money.

I hired a guy to gut and retile our bathroon/shower and watched him every step of the way, and was able to do the other two bathrooms myself and probably save $5000 in the process. Just an example...

This reminded me of refinishing my wood floors. I did it with my brother who is a fine furniture maker. So he has super high standards for finishes. I thought that was plus and that I'd save money to boot. Well, the floor turned out superb but it took about 15 times as long and cost just as much as the estimates from pros. Had to sleep in the basement for a month, and I lost all sense of time. It was so weird to do nothing but work on floors punctuated by eating sandwiches and sleeping all that time. Floor-sandwich-sleep, repeat X 30. Really that's all I remember. Next time, I'm hiring a floor pro who will do the job in 2 days, and I'll have bro refinish the dining table or something. Good luck though!

The contractors have been busy. The upstairs bath has been completely removed, the home completely rewired with new electric, kitchen ceiling torn out (I hate those suspended ceilings) and the basement gutted and concreted! The home was built in 1851. It is very encouraging to see it gutted and see that much of the structure is in excellent condition!
