Most hated "spending" quote
I was looking through the favorite money motivator quotes and was wondering if you all feel a hatred (like i do!) towards certain advertising quotes, phrases, or sayings as well...
like, I hate the saying "See how much you'll save!!" on commercials.
Whatever! It should be "see how much you'll spend!".
I dont care how you put it, if you spend money on something you did not need and had not planned it in your budget to purchase already... you have not truly saved.
I also can't stand the the visa commercials "life takes visa" where they make fun of someone using cash.
I use to not pay attention to these types of things but now that we have our finances in good shape, little things in advertising catch my attention and red flags go up.

Does it have to be an advertising quote? Because looking at the growing consumer credit numbers put out by the Federal Reserve in its quarterly Flow of Funds report, the quote "I encourage you all to go shopping more" makes me a little nauseated.

I agree with the original poster. That Visa commercial that makes fun of the guy at the store for paying cash makes me want to put all of my credit cards in a pile and light them on fire. Another one that I hate is a local radio spot for a car dealership that touts their "Credit Construction Crew" "Got a job and $100?. Then we WILL get you into a brand new car today!!!!" Sickening......

I hate the people going around sprouting if you save you're hurting the economy more than those commercials.

EVERY neighborhood has that one - drive me nuts. (pun not intended)(ok, maybe pun intended)
and the VISA one makes me nuts too. I'm trying to pay cash as much as possible. I even pay in singles under $10 so I really know what I'm spending (I also 'track' singles). It opens your eyes wide when you count out 9 singles instead of a 10 spot.

Definitely "You deserve it"
Also salespeople who equate tax deductions with tax savings

"Do What You Love and the Money Will Follow".
Um, no it won't. If you can turn what you "love" into a marketable skill or commodity, then it can possibly earn you money.
I personally think it makes more sense to "love what you do" rather than the other way around.

Yep. I hate all the ads that imply something is free. If I'm buying a product and it comes in a case, the case isn't free. It is included in the price.
I just saw ads for New Year's Eve hotel packages in Atlantic City that did this. Pay "only $1,000" and you'll get a "free $100 dining certificate and a free breakfast buffet." What a great deal to give me all that "free" stuff for "only" $1,000.

... for less than the price of your daily latte!
(Considering a daily latte could cost $100/month, that's not saying much.)
