Default Facebook for business use???

Facebook has received alot of press lately as its popularity has grown from strength to strength. Most managers are outraged by their employees spending too much time on the website. However, is there a way to encorporate the site into the everyday running of a business in order to move with virtual world of business today. If you're interested this may be of interest to you-

1.Join a network on the website
2.Invite friends & family, even colleagues on to the website
3. Post a picture of work colleagues and customers -Publicise your business
4.Add an element of fun- Use the many apps on the site to maintain good working relationships.
5.Create a group related to your business.
6.Post events if neccessary- Trade Shows, Meetings, Demos, Presentations.
7.Post links to articles of interest and other media.
8.Use the communication available- walls, inbox, instant msging, etc.

Has anyone tried this with their business, does it save time and money as opposed to traditional methods?

As a student i use the site regularly to keep up with old friends and new friends. It does get tiresome after a while though. Some call Facebook- Fakebook for obvious reasons...

I looked at Facebook, and I think it's fine for keeping in contact with your friends and personal network, but it's not appropriate for business IMHO. LinkedIn is more appropriate for maintaining a professional network and making business connections.

Thanks for the response i'll take a look at LinkedIn. Social Network sites have really taken off- its crazy! Most of my friends started on Myspace then moved onto Bebo and have settled with Facebook which seems to be the favourite among Uni students.

Well, that's even the case in my office. No Facebook! It is completely prohibited. But I think even as a business tool it is of great help. After all business is also about socializing, right. I have been using Facebook for almost a year now and it has been a real fun. It can really be used as a very good marketing tool. What do you say, people?

I found my current job on myspace (through their classifieds).

I'm not on Facebook, and I never will be (you have to reveal your school and last name..... no way in hell I'd reveal my school as it was some of the worst times of my life, and my last name is too uncommon to reveal online)
