Holiday wish list

We just posted out annual "Wish list" on the fridge - a central place to jot down those little things you would like (I know some families like to be surprised, but we are total off-the-list buyers!). I just wrote down my first items: dark brown dress socks and new gardening gloves. Am I practical or what?

So what's on your wish list this year?

I found these Burburry slippers that I LOVE-and they are cashmere!

That's the big thing I want. Then there's the usual: musical/opera/ballet soundtracks/DVDs, movies, books, jewelry.

And some extra spending money wouldn't hurt.

practical items. I had towels and a rice cooker but someone just gave me a rice cooker. Now I have to think harder...

My real wish list would be CASH.

Just not much into "stuff" unless it is practical.

I don't have a wish list. My DH begs for ideas and I imagine my DIL will ask soon too but I am really at a loss. I hope to come up with ideas when I read yours!! I remember my Mom saying the same thing and as a child I never understood it. Well I understand it now!

We went to Ross recently and realized that we could get a lot of stuff for our kitchen for cheap so I think we are going to do a themed Christmas gift list of things for the kitchen. We are looking forward to it since some of the things in our kitchen are getting a little abused (we have a little frying pan that looks like a slasher attacked it over and over again). Before I can make a list though, I need to go through the kitchen and see what we need to get rid of.

I have to admit, we tend to prefer practical items for the most part. I like my toys, but I tend to buy them long before the holidays come along.

A calendar that includes a crochet pattern for everyday of the year. This is what I really want, I've asked for it, and I'm sure my kids will spend more and get something I don't really want that they think I should have. <sigh>

I honestly just want more available monthly cash to either save up, or more likely, pay down my debts.

I am working on that by going through each of my budget line item... again... and seeing what I can reduce. I'm still keeping an eye out for a better job.

DH wants an XBox 360. We have some money saved up and I'm thinking I'll get a refurbished one that's much less expensive. I didn't realize that many of the old games will still play on the new console, that will help make the transition much less $$$, since we don't have to buy all new games.

I'll be creating my list here shortly. Since DH and I are dividing up our household I'm sure I'll be running across all sorts of things that I would like and would be helpful.

I am going to do the list, One question....I have done a list before and all my gifts are off the list, Kinda like got her item one.. check. Got her item two.. check. How do you make sure there is a surprize Item under the tree?

We keep wish lists on Amazon for everyone in the family. That way if my DH wants to buy me something he can get ideas from the list. My kids also have a list each so relatives can see what they really want for birthdays or Christmas.

we've really toned down xmas in the last few years, so it can't be anything expensive.

My wish list is mostly practical stuff: a room thermometer so i can tell if the family room i close off in winter drops below freezing temps.

The little thingy you put on the end of a phone cord to keep it from getting all knotted up.

I already got my mom a sheet of real US postage stamps that have a picture of her artwork on them! (See zazzle.com). You can do this with any family photo, but i did it with her art.

I always have books on my amazon wish list, but they are expensive in my mind. Read 'em once and then they sit on a shelf.

On how to keep something a surprise...give a list of 10 and allow him only to buy 3..or whatever number you pick. or write down something in a category like 'movie with hot hunk XYZ in it' most stars are in several. Or practice surprise that he got what you asked for And my number one trick for surprise..forget what you put..make the list as early as possible and then forget about it. Just make sure you don't buy anything for yourself till after the holidays to avoid filling your own list.

On what to put if you really don't know, if you have kids or grandkids or even nieces, try asking for tickets that you would love to take them to....from some other relative not from the kid. Pick something you loved as a kid and would enjoy seeing them love. is better than not helping the giver IMO. (and might spark your imagination to think of tickets to a place you would like to go, without the kid) - course this only works if you live near the kids in question.

On books, if you really will only read them once (and many books I agree) try making it known you would love to read it, but know you would donate it, and couldn't ask for it cause the giver might be upset...if you keep talking you will find one person who doesn't mind and would love to give a gift that is also a donation. (I for one would do it-I already donate lots of gift books given to me...the house has no room for what I reread much less what I never reread)

we dont really have a wish list (although i did when i was younger at my parents house!) .... my husband and i decide on a "big gift" for ourselves and then a set amount of "surprise" money so we have something to unwrap (my hubby is like a child and loves to be surprised with wrapped gifts..lol)... this year we're getting a $250 digital camcorder for ourselves and then 50 to 75 bucks each to shop for our small surprises with.

i do want to casually mention to him that i'd love to have a dogz game for my little nintendo DS though ..hehe..

What I really want this year can't be bought.

1. To be told, honestly, that some action I took or something I said inspired someone to make a positive change in his or her life.
2. To hear "I want to be you when I grow up." Actually I did hear that this August, from a senior citizen who was also a marriage counselor. It made my year. So I at least have one item from this list.
3. A plan to make a fully-funded emergency plan, fully-funded Roth IRA, and several income streams achievable no matter what the economy brings over the next few years.
4. For my Bible-thumping relatives to treat me with love, attention and respect, the way someone radiant with Divine Love would have and my atheist/agnostic/Buddhist friends do. None of this "let's go visit every other relative in the vicinity except for Paulette, 'cos she's orphaned and therefore we don't have to have anything to do with her" stuff.
5. More local friends who are into goal-setting and support teams.
