You know, it's strange because I can get very argumentative as well. However, people are civil and it makes me feel the need to behave instead of scare away the genteel.

But it's better this way. For something like this, I prefer signal over noise anyway. There are plenty of other sites out there for loud and useless arguments.

I'm not here on a daily basis like I used to be last winter. I ended up back in the world of employment so I don't have as much time. I'd be here reading every day if I could.

Anyone else really hate the "Confessions Secrets" or whatever it's called that has been added to the Saving Advice Freebies emails? It seems like an knock-off of Post Secret-- except Post Secret actually raises money for suicide prevention. I hated having to start the list of freebies off with a depressing "secret" that I actually unsubscribed. Thing is, I like Post Secret-- but Confession Secret or whatever it was seems insincere. Anyone else?.

Sweeps,

I don't know. . .I'm pretty much a simpleton when it comes to money so I generally go right to the Investing forum or the Personal Finance forum, occaionally the General Discussion and Frugal forum.

All the coupon stuff, freebies, gardening. . .what's that got to do with money or saving?

Remember. . .this is a comment from a simpleton internet consumer.

If you can find a way to save money on something you would be buying anyway, that helps the bottom line.

As for gardening, that may or may not save money in the long run when you factor in your time, but there is something very satisfying about eating food that you grew yourself.

Yes, I do remember when interest rates where i was workingfrom 1977 to 1980. we were paying 6% on savings and 8% on certificates of deposits. Mortgages rates were 9%.

I do spend a lot more time on the blogs, trying to keep up with all of them. Maybe that has hurt the postings in this regular forum.
I do like the fact that the people here are so nice and don't jump on each other.

I think that it good to point out to new posters some ideas here that will help them navigate through. I know that when I first came on board, I felt overwhelmed, not knowing where to go next.

Scanner -- The people doing the "coupon trains" are presumably saving a lot of money by getting coupons for things they're already buying. Any coupons I can get on diapers and formula save us a bundle.

There's a lot of noise in the freebie section, IMHO. I've put in a suggestion to have some sort of rating system on the freebies, because for me at least I have to go through hundreds of the listed freebies to find 1 that looks like something I could use.

It does seem to have slowed down. I dont log on 5 times a day anymore maybe only once or twice but I am still addicted and need my fix so keep coming back and stay away from questions on the blogs. Although since there is less topics I have been able to look at a couple of them but really haven't figure out how to look at or follow the blogs so stick around!

Talking about coupons, rebates, sales, or whatever is another discussion. It is the everyday stuff that you spend alot of money on. So, what if you could save 15 to 20% on something$ Some of you aren't making 20%on your stocks. The difference is when you take your actual coupon and rebate money out and deposit it into your savings account.

Even my husband has been amazed how much that I have saved in a savings account since I started this. It's like the Latte Factor. What if you could save yourself $3. everyday instead of spending it? Add it up. $3. times 365 days is $1,095.00. What if you used that for longterm savings and with compound interest would add up to a nice little savings over time.

On a positive note, I think this forum gets a little less posting compared to other forums because it's well-moderated and there's little argueing. That's the double-edged sword; I kind of like to argue but I purposely tone it down because everyone here is so civil and I don't want to be the disruptive one for a change.

I realize not everyone is as arguementative as me either.
I agree the number of forums is excessive.

There is a "new posts" link at top, I can get through 1 or 2 pages of new posts in around 30 minutes.

I don't read the blogs much... and most of my focus these days in on other things... the financial side takes care of itself.
