Default House Auctions?

Has anyone purchased a home through an auction? I'd be interested to know what your experience was.

I'd like to purchase of a home for myself and this might be an option to consider.

I have not, but if you have watched any of the "Flipping homes" shows on television you can see many of the negatives of purchasing homes at auction.

I would always have to question why did the home make it to auction versus regular home sale. If the home was a foreclosure then I would tend to believe the people did not have the means to maintain their home properly.

If there was a death of the homeowner/family then I would tend to believet the home would be in much better shape.

I would certainly expect to have to do renovations in most cases though.

We are thinking of moving. We have discussed looking at foreclosed homes because of what we want and what we can afford.
