Default save money away from home

I'm going to visit some friends next week and will be out of town for 2 nights and three days. I was just curious what people do to save money when they are away from their hometown and normal routine for a few days.

Marla,
What is the agenda? Will you be staying with them? If so, maybe focus on eating in rather than eating out. If you are driving, pack some food so you don't need to stop at the rest stops.

If you are not going to be staying with your friends, pick up a coupon city book. It will give you half price on hotel lodging and a lot of discounts on restaurant meals. It will also give discounts on local attractions if you will be doing some of those too. I always buy a book when I'm going to a new city to visit. Never has it not paid for itself many times over and I usually leave it with my friends who live there when I leave and they take it as a great gift.

The trip had been delayed for a couple of weeks. The plan is to stay with them to save hotel costs, but we will probably be eating out quite a bit. It is a gathering of old friends, so I don't think we will do many touristy things. Mostly just talk and catch up.

While eating in will be possible some of the time, I don't think it will be an option for most of the meals.
