Default It's Home and FLower Show Time..Do you go?

It's that time of year again...time for garden shows and home shows.

I love to go to these....there always seem to be a lot of free promotional handouts...do you go?

I've been to lots of home shows...there's a big flower show coming up next week in Hartford...think i'll drag B. there with me.

How about you?

I enjoy going but anymore they charge a hefty admission fee and I can always walk the nearest nursery at no charge - the one near me has a decent designer who is always changing up the displays. Not the same but still...

I have seriously cut back on my garden expenditures in exchange for saving for retirement.

We are very fortunate to live where we do. Philadelphia is the home of the nation's oldest flower show and currently hosts the world's largest indoor flower show each March. We go annually. The past couple of years, I went with my daughter. My wife stays home because of her allergies. Actually, even my daughter needs to be medicated before we go but she really enjoys the experience. So we'll be there, probably on March 8th after school.

We usually go to one home and garden show in LA, I get lots of good ideas that we can do for way less money than the advertised product. There are usually discount coupons in the local papers and we make a day of it with lunch or dinner afterwards..

Gulp.

Um, I just went to a home show with a friend. We had free admission passes so why not, right?

There was a vendor for a subscription wine service who was pretty liberal with the samples. My brothers B-day was around the corner so I bought him a case of different wines for a little over $200.

Another vendor was there from Kitchen Craft. This is that greaseless/waterless cookware that is insanely expensive and isn't available in stores. I bought a 2 qt pot. For a lot of money. Thank god I wasn't so tempted to spring for the set. Man, that stuff is expensive.

Next time I'm sticking with craft fairs or auto shows. That stuff doesn't tempt me at all.

Fern,

Hey, you live in Hartford, CT? How do you like it?

I interviewed for a job there at the U. of Hartford. I probably won't take it but I went and interviewed for the hell of it because my wife loves Connecticut.

The cost of relocating coupled with no net pay increase to household makes the move a bad decision (and I can't figure out your COL up there for the life of me).

Actually, I'm about an hour southwest of Hartford. CT is nice enough, but it is expensive to live here and there are many other parts of the country that aren't so pricey and still offer a great quality of life.

i go. We live in a small town but they have a small one here. I love it. It is usually around my birthday and we go, collect samples, pens, key chains, and DS2 balloons. I haven't spent money at one since i left Pgh but I go and dream. This year I am actually looking for a good price on a money saving thing for the shower since we have to replace it anyway. i didn't like going as much when we were renting so am really looking forward to this years since we bought a house. I always take address labels and use them for the drawings. Won something once, I think a car vac but no harm in entering.

They have home shows but we don't go as they like to charge $8/person to get in + we can't afford anything they are "pushing" anyways. It's nice to dream though...
