Default Who's affected by the Peter Pan recall?

We are...unfortunately. We currently have three jars in the house, one opened and half eaten. My mom was mysteriously ill earlier in the week for a few days with nausea, cramps, and muslce aches - all of which can be symptoms of salmonella, although she cannot recall if she ate any of the peanut butter or not, so we don't know for sure. My kids and father have both eaten from the jar, but no signs of illness at all...yet. I think it's been long enough, though, that I think we can breathe easier.
Just got word that they are taking my DH's 88 y.o. grandfather to the ER with diarhea - the home health aide they have (thank goodness!) made the call after finding two open jars of peanut butter in the house. Hopefully some hydration will have him back to normal soon. Anyone care to send a few well-wishes this way?
I'm really glad that I switched to natural p.b. a while back (not Peter Pan brand). So who else has this p.b. in the house?

In case you haven't heard, the recall is for Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butters with the product # 2111 on the lid (first four numbers). Go check now if you haven't already!

Aww I am so sorry you have that problem, we use Jiff so escaped that one, but it came as a bit of a shock to think peanut butter could be contaminated....

I am. I had one at work and 3 at home in that lot number. Did you know that you can send the lids in and they are supposed to refund your money? I have mine ready to send out today. I always buy the big jars of it so that's quite a chunk of money.

DH and one of the boys had been having stomach trouble off and on the past few weeks so I'm wondering if it wasn't the peanut butter?

My DS and DIL were really sick a week or so ago. I emailed them to see if they had the peanut butter! We use Jif here and have an organic one, also, so we were safe. This is getting really scary, isn't it?

I was going to say the same as PrincessPerky. 3 of mine were just about empty. Don't ask me why we had 3 open peanut butter containers at once. Kids!

As someone mentioned, to participate in the recall through ConAgra, you just have to send in the lid(s). If you go to their web site you can get the address.

However, I had two jars (unopened) and one jar (opened and nearly empty) and I just returned them to Wal-Mart. They gave me a refund onto a shopping card and I went and bought some Skippy Natural and a couple of other items. Easy.

I thought that I had heard about some stores accepting jars and giving a refund...anyone know how to find out which stores? We got ours at BJs and Wegmans, so I'm wondering if we can just go back there with them...

Well, I just went to check my larder, and I have one of the recalled products. More accurately, I have a jar of Peter Pan Peanut Butter with about an inch of product remaining in the bottom.

Is there a lawyer in the house?

I don't eat Peter Pan, but I was at my mom and stepdad's home last night, and saw they had two jars of it. One open and one unopened. I asked my mom if she'd noticed herself having any more stomach problems than normal, and she said she hadn't. So hopefully they have escaped any problems from it. My mom sure doesn't need any more health problems!

I'm glad I make a point not to buy any peanut butter with partially hydrogenated oils! That stuff is bad enough without adding salmonella issues!

nah, tinap, not 'Great Value' -- think cheaper yet!

Yes, that both came out of the same run should show folks that name-brand labels don't often mean all that much.

trying to think of pb that would be more generic than store brand, and the only things popping into my head are "Decent Value" and "Sam's Second Choice"

nice catch on the 79c PB. best i've found is store brand for 99c, and the occasional BOGO skippy.

when i splurge, i get fresh ground PB or almod butter from the health food store. GAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! yumm!

But you don't understand. I had a COUPON to buy Peter Pan Peanut Butter! I was enticed, entrapped, flimflammed, and bamboozled.

The only coupon I've used this year. Betrayed by ConAgra.

If you asked for Jif in Australia and ate that then you'd really be sick. Jif here is a cream cleanser used for kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
