Red face Re: Let's Lose a Person!

**fair warning**

HIDE YOUR EYES PEOPLE!!

Nekkid does it!!

Alrighty, told you I was going to re-weigh this morning sans socks & chunky shoes - SO I take the scales from out of the utility room where there is wood laminate flooring and into the blind-lowered bathroom which is currently carpeted to weigh myself in some semblence of privacy. No need to scare the neighborhood chil'ren & small animals that might be walking by the windows. Weighing stripped down to my birthday suit w/o the socks and shoes took away 6 lbs. COUNT EM PEEPS!! 6 lbs!!

Unfortunately I couldn't totally miss seeing myself in all of my nekkid glory in the mirror and all I can say is...

****MY EYES!! MY EYES!!!!!****

Oh the trauma!!

Be very VERY glad that you weren't in my bathroom this morning and THANK THE HEAVENS ABOVE that those folks on Biggest Loser do not strip to get their best weight, okay? OKAY!! 'nuff said.

Exercise yesterday? Shoveled & swept snow off sidewalk three different times in order to keep it clear. Also cleaned off three vehichles three different times in order to keep us hopefully mobile if we need to get out. Carried in boo-coooo groceries in multiple small trips as snow was beginning to accumulate and slippage was a definite possibility - me squashing my eggs nor flattening my bread in a downward swoop would not have been pretty! Nay nor would a broken hip-bone been a frugal endeavor, so many small load trips did the trick.

LuxLivingFrugalis off to hit the water bottle and sluggerin'er back! Maybe tomorrow I'll lose the earrings before weigh-in!

Oh how I wish we could count our stripped down weight when applying to life insurance! One could save dollars for those 6 pounds depending on where you are in the charts.

It always bums me that I weigh more at the doctor's office than home. I realize their scales are probably more accurate, but I am also wearing a ton of warm clothes.

Did you know the time of day can also make a difference in what you weigh! I don't know the science about it, all I know is I weigh less in the morning. Which I guess is typical. It can vary as much as 5-10 lbs depending on your weight. The heavier you are the more you can vary. So always weigh at the same time of day to consistently tell if you are gaining or losing weight. Personally, I always weigh in the morning before I jump in the shower. No windows in my bathroom!

Starting weight - 160 lbs Goal 145 will accept 150...

What I must do --- STOP eating so much! Way too many chips and salsa at lunch today..grrr ---- Exercise (but it's sooo cold) telling myself to shut up and do it anyway...

i threw my scale away, and it was a very gratifying experience!

it was always in the way in the bathroom, and got super yucky all the time somehow (not gonna think about how, i'm sure it's gotta be gross!).

plus, the thing was 'flicted. it was one of those digital kind that supposedly tell you your body fat % yadda yadda yadda with a 'normal person' and 'athlete' mode. as i no longer do any kind of real exercise (bad tina!) i first picked normal mode and the scale said i was 35% body fat AKA morbidly obese. at 5'5" 145 size 8, i'm morbidly obese? *confused* so i tried 'athlete' mode and that was more realistic. but, if it were actually measuring body fat % and not guesstimating, it should be able to measure it accurately in any mode as opposed to having a 15% difference b/c muscle, bone, and fat each have their own densities. ...

long story short, the 'body fat' calculation function was a load of horse hooey and that was my whole reason for having the thing. my weight fluctuates 5 lbs either side and my pants fit the same regardless, so i decided the scale just wasn't meant to be.

I have a doctor's scale and it is accurant to 1/4 of a pound. You can adjust it if you have to move it or something. You do weigh less first thing in the morning. One reason is that you have fasted for about 8 hours. That is why they call it breakfast, you break the fast!!

My goal is only five pounds, but really I'm not that far off, what I want more is to be in GREAT shape. So my goal is to excersize 5-6 days a week in preperation for a couple of triathalons this year.

I'm with you on that body fat thing! I got a new scale to track that...I lost wieght, but never body fat percentage...I gave up on paying attention to that. I think losing 40 lbs justifies more than 2% loss in body fat!!!

So yesterday at the pub wasn't great...Opted for a burger (and also had the fries)! But, as I reminded myself this morning, I'm not on a DIET, I'm making a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Rather than give up after one setback, I got back on the horse today. There was a party for a girl at work and I stuck to the fresh fruit. Had steamed shrimp and soup for dinner. (Threw in a few tortilla chips for a snack earlier in the day, but I've gotten good about reading the labels, so I made sure I didn't have more than a serving). I also walked on the treadmill for 25 minutes. Onward!

Maybe I am a weirdo, but one thing I do that I find helpful is to floss and brush immediately after dinner/dessert. I find that I am less likely to pick at things aand nibble all evening (my downfall) when my mouth is sparkly clean!

Another tip is to have some herbal tea if you feel like you just need to have SOMETHING besides water. This is great for those of us with the heaters turned way down!

Good luck all! I would join you, but I have been counting, counting, counting, for the last couple of months and it is driving me crazy. I think I am just going to keep hitting the gym 3x/week and more veggies/less carbs and cheese. I think that the counting every day inhibits progress, for me at least, it's such a bummer when you are sweating and trying so hard, and you don't see a change for a couple of days. I got a little out of shape, so I am also sure that as I lose fat and build muscle, my weight will not go down. I just don't want to have to buy new clothes! I'll be good with 10 lbs gone, thrilled with 15!

Sans earrings, but plus nightie & socks down 1 lb. this a.m.

Breakfast a.m. - 1 oz. cheese, and 1 low-carb slim fast drink Vanilla creme - tasty? eh, not so much - but not horrid either (of financial note - my Mom gave me three of these awhile back and they've been on ice in the frig just waiting for me at FREE prices!) 1 very tiny juice glass of calcium fortified O.J., 2 LARGE glasses of water and a couple of cups of java this morn.

Let's just say I've been fully hydrated.

Ate my standard oatmeal with fiber one and frozen raspberries this morning. Hit the gym and worked out on the crosstrainer for 42 minutes and burned 425 calories. I then did circuit weights, cruched my abs and sweated deeply for 10 minutes in the sauna. That sauna helps me warm up before going outside...its only getting to 9 degrees today!!

Lunch was light...only ate 285 calories. I will have a snack in a hour or so in the 100 calorie range. I'm drinking lots of water!!!

Lux, great job on the 1 pound...in one day was it? Enjoy it now, as it doesn't always go that quick!!

I'm jealous! I switched from regular pop to diet, but didn't lose any weight. I wonder if it's something else in the pop, like the carbonation?

Anyway, I'm in! DH and I are going on our first real vacation this year in a long time, and I want to be in much better shape than I am now before our vaca.

I've heard that your body still has an insulin response to artificial sweeteners even though they don't have any calories. That can make you tempted to eat more.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I noticed I had a lot less trouble with cravings when I switched to water.

well, kinda... there's a difference between craving something sweet (usually an emotional thing) and actually craving sugar, physiologically speaking. if you have a taste for a "little something sweet" and eat/drink something with an artificial sweetener, the body itself may still be craving actual glucose due to low blood sugar which was already in progress before the diet whatever you ate or drink, leaving you vulnerable to eating or drinking something sugary above and beyond the diet whatever (which may or may not have been calorie free to begin with).

this is why it's important to have snacks that are well balanced in addition to meals that are well balanced. for instance, honey mixed with peanut butter spread on 3 or 4 crackers gives you something sweet for the initial sugar fix, complex carbs to keep you from a sugar 'low', and protein which keeps on going after the other 2 are gone. this one is especially tasty with a glass of milk
