Wow, this thread really hits home with me. I have been married for 4 1/2 years now, and I was a svelte 190 pounds when I was married. I am now a chunky 240 pounds.
That said, I have 50 pounds to lose this year! I can do it.......I think, lol. |
|

I've got about 5-15 pounds to lose too. Add me in.

Please add me to the list! You've already inspired me to do an exercise tape this morning, and make some diet jello.

Thanks for reminding me of the jello. That's a great idea. Anytime anyone gets ideas let us know. And yes, I have some tapes as well "Move it or Lose It" Isn't that the truth. Maybe, I'll go turn on the old VCR tapes this afternoon.

Wow, I'm so excited that so many are on board. We're up to 25 (including Lux - if you're thinking about it, that's good enough for me!).
I'm facing a challenge tonight - dinner and drinks with the girls at a local pub. I normally factor 2 glasses of wine into my daily count ( ), but it's going to take all the willpower I can muster to bypass the potato skins and nachos and opt for something a little healthier. I'll report back tomorrow... |

How about just tortilla chips and salsa? Just watch out for the chips. Hey, take something with you in your purse. Maybe some peanuts or something healthy. Something that my hubby and I do is to share a plate. Usually it's so much food. We also ask for water with lime in it or lemon. Tell the girls that you're watching what you eat. Maybe they will be encouraging.

just read a really interesting article in Woman's Day about your Basal Metabolic Rate, it's a formula that helps you figure out how many calories you need to cut daily to lose weight. It's a good start for people who want to lose weight slowly (a pound a week). Sitting here now drinking watered down apple juice. I just don't like the taste of plain water all day long.

I'm at a healthy weight, so I won't be joining the Challenge. However, I am a Registered Dietitian (RD), and there are few things that make me happier than people who are motivated to make a healthy lifestyle changes! If anyone has food / nutrition questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
A lot of people who lose weight find it helpful to keep a food journal to write down everything s/he eats, portion sizes, and feelings at the eating occasion (bored, ravenous, celebratory, etc.) In many ways, it's similar to tracking your spending. This might not be a practice that you care to do forever, but it can be a real eye opener in the beginning. |

Threebeansalad: it will be a great help to have someone like you in our corner! I am going to try the weight journal and see what it tells me.

Okay, today was my weigh in day. Previously I stated I had lost 9.6 pounds. I looked at my journal and actually I had only lost 9.0 pounds. I lost 0.8 pounds this week. So now my total lost is 9.8 pounds. My current weight is 153.8 pounds. My goal is 145.
Today for lunch I had 2 wasa crackers, with spreadable swiss cheese, tomato and red onion and a side of cottage cheese. I almost always have oatmeal with a 1/4c of frozen fruit and 1/4c of fiber one cereal for breakfast. I'm a believer in the journal threebeansalad wrote about. I write down everything everyday. I have a DietMinder Journal. Keep up the good work everyone!! |

can i join the party? =)... i gained a few during the holiday season and have already been working to get rid of them because every pound counts when you're petite and my clothes are on the verge of mutiny... i have 2-5 lbs left and would love having you guys as my inspiration...

Yes! Welcome to the party! We'd be glad to have you. Since you have the least to lose (so far)...makes me think of the debt snowball. We'll just keep tacking all the pounds and have mini celebrations along the way. Unfortunately, I won't be able to add your weight loss to my own!

Welcome Kealina. The more the merrier. They say that there is power in numbers. I just went into the kitchen to make the jello I said I was going to make. I'm definitely going shopping tomorrow and have healthier foods on hand when I get hungry. If you can cut up some of your vegetables into bitesize pieces and have them on hand, it will be less tempting to grab for the higher calorie food. It's also about choices. I had some cheese and crackers for a snack and just looked at the different kind of crackers that I have and there's alot of difference in the calories for each one.

i found it helpful to pre-pack things into appropriate portions, that way i don't have to think about it more than once or twice a week. like nuts: they're good for you in small amounts, but it's hard to stop at one handful! so, i would get the cheap plastic sandwich baggies and have portions of nuts, crackers, or dried fruit packed up and in a basket, ready to grab.

Tina that is a great tip. Going to do that starting today.

HI All! I think I'll go ahead and join in the fun as well. Last year I lost 40 lbs, and I still have 40 - 50 more lbs to go. Initially, I was hoping to be at my goal weight by July, but I think more realistically it may be closer to December - I've kind of been at standstill for the past 4 or 5 weeks.

173 lbs. Just over the top of my healthy BMI range. Losing 10 lb will bring me down to a better number.
Have cut sugar out of my tea and am drinking it with non-fat milk. Instead of peanut butter on crackers as a snack I had a couple figs. Ate an orange instead of dessert. ![]() |
