Just curious where people think the best place to hide money in the house would be so that it wouldn't be found by a burglar?

i have a post about this somewhere, but who knows if i'd be able to find it!
first, double baggie your money. you'll be thankful later! now, think of the last place in your house you yourself want to go. for me it's the litter box, so i would put my double baggied money in the bottom of my litter box. easy to get to in an emergency, but not that likely to get ransacked if my house gets broken into. other options: taped to the inside bottom of your trash can, taped on the back bottom of your kitchen sink bowl, buried inside a bag of flour in the pantry, taped to the bank of your toilet tank, inside a box of tampons/pads/diapers. |

We have an hundred year old ACTUAL bank safe in our garage. There's nooooooo way anybody would be able to break into it! They'd have to blast it open with dynamite and that might call some attention to them enough for the neighbors to call the cops!LOL

I keep mine in the very back of the pantry. I got my father to clean cut the top off of a can of black eyed peas. With out messing with the label. It is where you can put the top back on without noticing a differance. I put it in line with all the other cans of blackeyed and toward the back........Sneaky yes!

My Mom had a great place. She had a picture of my sister that was made so it looked 3 dimensional. In the frame in the back she kept several hundred for an emergency. Whereever you keep it make sure one other person knows so if something happens it won't become the garage sale find of the year!!

Double baggy, inside the toilet bowl tank.
Double baggy, inside an old metal can, under the porch steps. Double baggy, 1ft out from any one of your fence posts and bury it a couple feet deep. Double baggy, build a small bird house and hang it from a tree limb. Put the baggy inside the bird house. |

Lots of good ideas given. Thanks. Especially to Ima (I know where you live) LOL Just kidding. My mom used to keep hers in the freezer too and now she hides it everywhere. Never the same place twice. I dont hide mine cause I never have enough to hide.

I also have a safe. It is bolted into the floor and would take some time to get out. When we built dr. house, we put a wall safe in, behind a picture. He had a hard time paying his bills, so I doubt he had much cash.

The January 15 issue of Bottom Line Personal (look for it in your local library) had this very subject as an article, supplied by a long-term police officer. One idea proffered was to double bag your loot and store it in flour tins and cans.

Ican't save, I know who you are, you have been in my house!!
[Automated by GetSmile]I don't think hiding it in food is a good idea. when I was robbed, they spent the night and ate a bunch of stuff! I put my stuff in the safe when I am going to be gone. |

![]() Still though, for the price you pay, I don't think hiding it in cans is necessarily that bad of an idea. Of course, there are better options, but they would also cost considerably more. Safes are fine, for example, so long as they are bolted down. People who are very serious generally will have their own "danger rooms". Some are so sophisticated, they're like walk-in vaults, complete with its own power source and air ventilation systems that can even filter out radioactive particles. Of course, the more sophisticated it is, the more expensive it can become. Me, I'm on a ramen budget so, I tend to rely on the much cheaper alternatives of hiding either in existing structures or in plain sight. |

I keep my extra change hidden from family (not burglars) in an empty plastic jug from kitty litter. I use it for surprises (or bills) and really don't want it spent. |
