Exactly! Thats one of the many reasons why I don't hide money in the house. I keep a few hundred in the basement in a safe and that hopefully would be enough to keep us afloat until things got back to normal.

in a hole in the dog kennel. even if they get to know that it is there, they will never retrieve it. it helps if your dogs are vicious and more so rabid

Bedroom drawer.

I'm attacking the burglars with my counter-psychology!

Seriously, never keep much cash in the house (maybe 100$ or so), so I don't go to great lenght to hide it.

Ohh, how about ten dollar bills in sealed plastic, single layer, underneath the wallpaper? I guess nobody uses wallpaper any more. Oh, well.

I love this thread, but I'm not going to bother finding the most super secure place, anyway. I could put $$ in some great place, only to have an earthquake or tornado be our emergency, and then the money is sealed away under the brick and plaster of my destroyed house anyway. Or it would burn in a fire. My friend had a housefire last year and lost jars full of coins he'd been saving for 40 years. Some melted and got shoveled out the house by the firefighters who were trying to stop the smoldering. Some coins did not melt, but became encased in plastic from their jars and from nearby plastic household items.

I heard one that they start with the bottom drawer and work their way up, that way they save time by not having to close the top one to see what's in the next one. Just thought of that when I read this.

We'll all be expert criminals after this thread.

I have always pushed things under the mattress and now I have so many ideas to implement.

I personally like the freezer and the garbage bin idea.

Somewhere they can find it. Get an envelop, write RENT fund on it (stick around $50 in a bunch of 20 $1's, 2 $5's, 1 $10.

Put it where someone can find it if they break in, the sooner they find something, the faster they leave. hiding your money too good will lead to them tearing up your house and doing so much damage, you wiill wish you had left them a quick get out of my house gift.

leave it on the table, or under the mattress. or in a top drawer.
you want them to get in, find it, and get out. stick a bunch of old cancelled credit/debit cards there too or old cancelled bank account checkbooks.

I normally do not hide money in the house, but I would put it in the freezer. Disguise it so it doesn't stick out.I would suggest the bottom of a package or box in a bag.

Saving cash (whether physically or in a bank account) as an investment is a losing proposition considering inflation. A small amount for emergencies in a bank account probably makes the most sense.
If you want to hedge your bets, gold and/or silver is the way to go. If you worry that during an emergency you won't be able to get it out of a safe deposit box, the only reasonable method of securing it is the bolted down fire safe.
Once I realized how much my gold and silver had appreciated and thought about how easy it would be for someone to walk off with it (it was in a cheap office fire safe - not bolted down) it was time to get a quality safe and have it proffesionally installed.
I didn't bother to hide it since it is a full-size gun safe. My hope is that once the thieves see that it's a Cannon and bolted down they will figure that anything of high value will be inside and give up before trashing my place too bad.

If I had to hide some cash I'd take a ratty looking ace bandage and roll the cash up in it and toss it in a bathroom sink drawer next to a tube of Bengay. It wouldn't look out of place there and I haven't seen the idea above.

if the amount is huge

save it in bank

that's the way to do it

but if you really want to hide your money

underneath the carpet will do

or inside a caserole in the kitchen

I personally think that the best place to hide money is in a safe that is built into your cupboards right at the back or amongst things that don't look like its worth steeling for example behind lots of handbags. If not then put it in a bank, but you can never guarantee that your money will be safe.

According the police, burglars always look for the easy way. If a lock box or small home style safe is bolted from the inside to studs, not easily removed, they'll choose under the mattress, in drawers, cupboards, desk, behind the commode, books and they can spot the loose carpet corner or floorboard hide.

Entertaining thread. I never really have enough cash or gold at my place after relatives were burglarized of jewelry worth thousands by their own daughter's friends. If I did, probably go with freezer idea.

I heard someone mention the hollows of curtain rods. Roll the cash in there. Another created a niche in the top of a solid wood door in his son's room. I also heard of double bagging your money. Threading fishing line (for it's strength) through the top of the baggy and tying it to your heating/cooling registers. Great place for jewelry too.

A good place to bury item(s) is under the yard/garden stepping stones. Easy to watch and locate.

A good place is in a plastic bag placed in an oatmeal container with oatmeal on top.
