first, double baggie your money. you'll be thankful later!
now, think of the last place in your house you yourself want to go. for me it's the litter box, so i would put my double baggied money in the bottom of my litter box. easy to get to in an emergency, but not that likely to get ransacked if my house gets broken into.
other options: taped to the inside bottom of your trash can, taped on the back bottom of your kitchen sink bowl, buried inside a bag of flour in the pantry, taped to the bank of your toilet tank, inside a box of tampons/pads/diapers.

I went to a security forum put on by police. The officer explained burglars set a timer and are typically only in a home 15 minutes. The 1st place they seek money, jewelry & valuables is Master Bdrm. They yank off the mattress/boxspring, dump drawers, trash closet. 2nd bathrm searching sellable drugs. They sweep kitchen shelves of cans in their search for the fake ones.
The police felt it was worth the cost to have a small, fireproof safe so long as it was bolted to the floor and/or wall. We were encouraged to have signage or stickers showing alarm system or security services because thieves prefer the easier home. the police cautioned that by the time security services make contact and send help, the intruder has already left. If your alarm sets off accidently, you can be fined for false alarms.
We were told burglars rarely check children's rooms, they don't think parents store valuables there. 2nd - bill or income tax file.

hide money
I really don't like to keep too much money in my house. I used to hide a few hundred bucks on a ledge in my basement. I think the best place would be an out of the way place that nobody would find. I would stash it in my tool box because odds are nobody would go in it.

You know, I was thinking on this the other day and an empty baby wipes container would be a good place to hide things.

haha this is a funny thread. someone already said this but if you have that much money, why hide it in your house and not just put it in a bank where its fully insured?

I don't have any heirs and plan to bury my money in secret location and scatter clues all around the world. I figure people will have a good time solving them and looking for it. I only wish I could see the results...hmmm, might have to fake my own death someday :-)

Just make sure you tell me the first clue (or, better yet, how about the very last clue?)....

I have a cluttered house with few (if any valuables). I do form time to time (like right before a trip) keep some money in the house. I doubt that anyone would ever find it. I worry sometimes that is one of my kids were to have to come settle my estate it would get thrown away or at best sold in a garage sale.

hide money
Hi,
The best place to hide money is in a place no one would go to or in a hidden safe.

A friend of mine hid several hundred dollars in the barrel of his shotgun, of course he forgot, and vaporized it!

Banks are failing. Your money is nothing but an electronic blip in their bank. It isn't like the money is locked up in the local bank safe anymore. An electronic hijacking could easily wipe you out. As for it being insured, yes, it presently is but what does that mean? How long would it really take you to get your money back if you accounts were wiped out? Wouldn't it make sense to have cash on hand such an event, for a power outage, or for a disaster?

The problem with hiding money for me is that i would probably forget where I hid it! So, how do you deal with that? Do you make yourself a map or something and put it in your firebox?

Never Keep Cash At Home. Period.
Put what you need into debit cards and keep them in your wallet.
