Default Money Camps for Kids

Do your children understand money? I live in the Atlanta area. My business partners and I have started a one-day camp for kids called Camp Moolah. Camp Moolah's fun environment teaches kids ages 11-15 real-world money skills that help them make good financial choices for life. They learn responsible behavior in selecting careers and spending and managing money. The kids love the interactivity of the day, with games and role play instead of lectures.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our camp. So, I was curious. Are there money skills or ways of thinking that have been influential in your life that have helped you become successful? Are there money skills or ways of thinking that you wished you had learned before you started working?

Can't wait to hear what you have to say.

We did something similar a a church youth activity one. There were all kinds of booths. Some where you earned 'tickets' and others that cost tickets. Some places where just like stores and you bought things like food and stuff. They didn't tell us anything about the activity. We just showed up and each were given the same amount of tickets and send into the 'world.' As time passed I noticed people where thinning out, but I wasn't paying attention. I was earning and spending my tickets having a grand ole' time. Then a man dressed in a 'white' suite came and asked me to follow him....

That was how you 'died'. Those little tickets......well how many of them you had and 'special' ones you earned by 'doing service' and 'helping others' those little things meant something when you had to 'stand before your maker'. It was a great youth activity and really made me realize that what you spend your time doing is important.

I don't know if that game would help. There are certainly many ways to 'tweak' it for your purpose. The white people could mean forced retirement and how many tickets they have could mean the level of retirement they get. Work with the idea....I am sure there are many things you could come up with.

The cost for the camp is $149, which includes all materials, lunch, snacks and, of course, the many skills that will help make, keep and manage money to lead financially responsible lives. Check us out online (www.campmoolah.com). I'll be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

That's a really great suggestion! Thank you so much. My business partners are going to love that idea. I hope you don't mind if in the future I ask a few questions regarding the experience you had that day.
