Default Interview You for My Book

Have you been screwed financially by a friend or family member?

Perhaps you cosigned a loan or lent money that was never repaid. Or you married a gold digger or a deadbeat dad. Or your spouse hid credit card debt. Or you didn't receive your inheritance because someone else in the family conned your parents out of their money.

I am writing a book based on my own personal experiences and those of people I've interviewed. The purpose is twofold - to show that these events are extremely common, and, where possible, to help prevent people from making similar mistakes.

This is the real deal, not just some vague dream of mine. I've written about 60% of the book. Several literary agents are seriously interested.

Ideally, we'd meet in person. If that's not possible, then by phone or email.

I change all names, places, professions, and other identifying details to protect the privacy of my interviewees.

If you are interested, please send me a PM. Thanks!

In case you are scared off by the idea of actually speaking to me , you can submit email or excerpts from your blog. I don't use any material without your express permission.

Thanks again for your help.

Me ex wasn't a gold-digger, just not financially responsible. My friends aren't financially responsible either, but that didn't harm me in any way. My parents were rather frugal.

So, in a way, I've been fortunate? But I don't have any personal experiences that would be of use to you though. Sorry.

You are going to love this one. I friend of mine who had done handyman jobs for me for years, came to me one day and said that he had gone to the boat and lost $500. He asked if I would lend him the money so his wife would not find out. Interestingly enough, his wife and I worked together at the same agency. OK, I say sure. I go on vacation and come back. I listen to my voicemail and guess what, there is an hysterical message from the wife saying, "where are you? He died!!". Of course, I did not have him sign an IOU nor did I mark the check "loan". It was an expensive funeral for me!!

Yes, I've got a story if you'd care to hear about it, I'd be willing to tell you if I could remain mostly anonymous of course!

BA - Thanks for your response, and yes, be happy you've dodged the bullet on these problems.

Lynclarke - Thanks for sharing. I'll contact you off-line.

Lux - I tried to PM or email you but without success. Please PM or email me.

I am very careful to protect the privacy of my interviewees. I change all identifying details such as names, places, jobs, etc. If your original story involves your daughter, I might change it to your two sons. Your older brother may become your younger sister. The end product is much more anonymous than a lot of entries on the blogs or the forums!

vsjhoc, I tried to email you as well, but no luck. I did go in and change something on my options list in the control panel. You might try me again if not perhaps you could post your email address here or on my blog?

Lux - Still no luck. I'd rather not post my email address (hey, until the book comes out when I totally "out" myself, I'm concerned about privacy too!), so I asked Jeffrey to email my address to you. Due to the time difference, you probably won't hear from him until tonight. Thanks for your patience and persistence!
