what are you doing to stay healthy?
we have lost 8 lbs, each, my spouse and me...we are walking 1-1/4 miles a day on the treadmill...
no white food or drink after 6pm, only colored fruit, veggies, grains.
no milk, no eggs, cholesterol has dropped 35 pts.
we are purchasing whole grain breads, flours, soy bean items, etc.. protein energy bars... this health food stuff is expensive..
what are you doing to be healthy? where are you purchasing your items and what is the cost?

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
Drinking lots more water. Adding back in more vegetables and fruit. Drinking hormone free milk and less meat. Whole grains. I really, really need to add my exercise back in--I'm working on it. Eating healthier is more expensive in one way, and less in that we eat less meat. I'm working on my sleep routine also--getting more quality sleep. I just have to deal with that crazy sweet tooth I have......

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
Take my vitamins - Multi + B, C, D & E, calcium, a dose of flavored (cherry or orange) cod liver oil and a baby aspirin every day.
Floss daily.
Eat breakfast DAILY - a habit I'm trying to acquire.
Drink lots and lots of water.
I too drive w/seat belts and w/my lights on at the speed limit.
This year big goal is to limit/eliminate fast food and sodas.

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
Very little white flour, white sugar, and potatoes (good habits that stuck from South Beach). More whole grains, unprocessed foods (i.e. nothing "instant"). Making more of my own food now, like granola and muffins, so I can control the sugar content. Drinking way less soda, maybe one a week now.
I would like to start exercising a little more, not to lose weight but just for better health and energy. I lost 20 pounds last year and am very happy with the size I am now.
* sorry, have to put in my two cents here - not trying to change anyone's opinions, but I do like to give facts on the matter in case anyone is weighing the choice. Regarding BST free milk (I don't call it hormone free milk because all milk contains natural hormones), it is indistinguishable from milk in which the cows have been given BST. Why? Because the BST they have been given are naturally occurring in milk anyway. All it does is make the cow give more milk, not different milk. That being said, perhaps there are different reasons that people are choosing BST free milk, which I can respect. I just hate, in the true spirit of this forum, to see anyone pay the BST-free prices when there is not really any difference. In fact, milk producers have been required by the FDA to put a label on milk that says "No significant difference in milk from cows treated with artificial growth hormone." (I just got this straight from the gallon). My parents are dairy farmers and adamant in educating the public about their milk

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
as little white sugar/flour/corn syrup as possible but i eat less processed sweeteners with wild abandon!
try to get as many colors as possible on my plate or in my bowl. last night's dinner was 11.
drink hormone/antibiotic free milk from a local dairy. it tastes better than store milk, it supports local business, and my issue is with the antibiotics moreso than the hormones.

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
i try to buy as much organic or locally as i can, and it's gratifying to see over time that organics are being introduced to new food items.
I try to squeeze in exercise, and if it's too cold to walk to work, i go up and down the stairs for 10 minutes or so.
I don't drink alcohol much and if i do, it's just one glass of wine or beer. I gave up soda a while ago tho do splurge occasionally. Mostly drink water and OJ at times.
My diet is low on red meat; i get my protein from chicken/turkey, legumes, seeds and nuts and cheese. (Toasted walnuts and sunflower seeds are delicious in a green salad). I also always use canola or olive oil when cooking and i don't eat much sweet stuff, like candies, cookies or cakes. I try to eat a variety of veggies, especially those in the cabbage family; steer clear of fried foods. Use rice milk in my cereal, never milk (in favor of what my sister calls "hormone-filled pus," ie, cow's milk)
I enjoy doing my own cooking on the weekends, which is much healthier than store bought. Don't buy things with hydrogenated oils or white refined flours.
Try to wear my seat belt. Have 2 carbon monoxide detectors in my house, as well as smoke detectors. I get all my annual checkups each year for gyno, mammogram, optometrist every 2 years...

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
Drinking lots of water, reducing diet soda (down to 1 can a day), reduced calories eaten ( I have lost 6.6 pounds in 2 weeks), watching the amount of protein and fiber (goal is 25grams). My goal is to complete 30 minutes of cardio exercise each day. Today it was 45 minutes, yesterday 65 minutes. I need to start back on my weightlifting...new gym...just not comfortable there yet.

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
Water. Green tea. Exercising 3-4 times a week. Whole grains (the whole family now eats it, and doesn't complain!) Right now, we (meaning the family) are working on upping the vegies and fruit. My family eats the majority of meals at or from home, so we have more control over what we eat and how it's prepared. I also take a multivitamin plus vitamins C & E, niacin, calcium and aspirin. Bit by bit we work at it!

High fructose corn syrup is, or so I am told, very bad! It is found in practically every processed food and soda!

I've made a lot of progress making breakfast a habit.
Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Not much meat.
Lots of beans.
Lots of fiber and whole grain, bulgur, oatmeal, etc.
Lots of water-seltzer and club.

Walk on breaks at work-good for my head, too.
Get good sleep most nights.
Working on less high-fructose corn syrup, and non-whole fruit sugars.
Working on more walking to work/more excercise bike.
Working on avoid migraine triggers.

Re: what are you doing to stay healthy?
so glad to see so many people posting about healthy habits...
i know we try but i can't even think of the specific things other than i know we drink lots of water, tea, crystal lite.... boneless skinless chicken and lots of produce...
we have our vitamins handy for if we remember to take them and we go to the gym together too... unfortunately living here (specifically our neighborhood/street) it isn't very conducive to excercising outdoors...
