Ima - If you really want to sell, why not try Ebay? If you don't want to do the Ebay selling yourself, you can find a commission seller who will sell for you. [Of course, they'll take a hefty commission but at least you'll get some cash.] Wouldn't that add big bucks to your $20 challenge pot?!?

I probably could not get half of what I paid for them, which is a shame. The older trademarks should make them worth much more.

Perhaps not, but then you wouldn't have to dust or move them.
And you never know, depending on their rarity, they might sell for more than what you think.

Here's a link to a Hummel figurine selling on Ebay for over $1,400 with 2 more days of bidding left to go:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HUMMEL-MERRY-WAN...QQcmdZViewItem

Granted, getting that much money is extremely rare, but might be worth looking in to.

Now that I see how much some of the figures sell for on Ebay (gasp!) I have to say it might be better to try to sell them yourself rather than use a commision seller ...

As I mentioned, I collect Disney memorabilia. We had our annual collector's club post-holiday party today and we were discussing this very topic. Many people are disappointed to discover that when they go to sell their collection, it brings very little, sometimes even less than the paid for the items. But some money is better than no money, especially when you consider that you didn't buy these items as investments. You bought them for the enjoyment having them brought you. I love my collection. I love spending time looking through stuff. I love showing it to others. I love wandering through antique shops looking for new pieces. I love browsing ebay and finding that must-have item. Will I make a profit when I eventually sell stuff? Yes on some items. Most likely no on most of them. But I will have had decades of pleasure from buying and owning everything.

No. I used to collect dragons and monkeys.

It is not only I am cheap, just over time I Rethink collecting altogether. SO I have a million monkeys and dragons, sitting around, gathering dust, no use. what is the point?

We purged most the monkeys a while back, and I was just perusing ebay to see what I could sell all my dragon stuff for. I am just done with hoarding material things - don't see the point any more. At one time it was fun, but for what? - now I am going to sell them all.

Granted I Was perusing dragons on ebay and saw all sorts of cool new ones - LOL. Think I am just bored with what I have... But I don't really have the money to rebuild a collection right now. So I wouldn't be surprised if I started a new one when I felt we had the means - hehe. In the meantimes I am in anti-collection mood. For the most part as I think about it more carefully I will probably choose not to rebuild any sort of collection no matter how much money I have. They just no longer hold any importance to me.

I collect Baseball Cards. Or at least I did. Ever since my daughter was born 6 months ago, I have stopped collecting and frankly I don't see a reason to do it anymore. Anyone wanna buy them?

Art Nouveau and 1930s stuff. I'm fascinated by the 1930s. Not just the depression but the entire era

I like northwoods bears by Young, otherwise there are some crystal winnie the pooh figures I started to collect before I became a SAHM.... I really wanted all of them but @ over $100 a pop I need to keep food on the table KWIM?
I also have a few porcelain dolls just cause they are pretty, but they are also on the inexpensive side too.

books - i'm a book worm and my borders budget shows!!!!

Used to collect baseball cards when I was a tomboy kid...
Now, I've been digging them out to try and sell them.

Clutter seems to be my big one. I've tried to organize, but the minute I get rid of stuff, I end up getting more, or so it seems....

Do cut up credit cards count ?

I collect books. I love to read, and my husband and I want to be able to have a great library someday. I started before we got married, but then stopped to save money when we got married. But my dear, loving husband has started to buy me one book a month, it's great!

Do fish count? Well, not just fish, but we have a 65 gal salt water aquarium that I count as a pet/hobby/collection. And trust me, you spend on it. A fish here, a coral there, a clam over there, and ohhhh this gadget really helps me clean the tank.....

There are loads of other things that I would like to collect but the next on the list, when we can afford it, would be art. We stopped by a couple little galleries awhile ago and some of them had GREAT prices on some sketches from Picasso and such. One day...
