*sigh* too many of these come up in coversations with friends, family, my spouse... it's frustrating...

Oh this makes me laugh....because I've heard them all.

In fact my boss just used the 'blood out of a turnip' not two days ago!

Ive heard "blood from a stone" before.

Usually people dont give me excuses because I dont ask, but its normally along the lines: "I cant afford it"
