Default Do you have plans for New Year's yet?

Do you have plans for New Year's eve yet?

I don't.....

Last year, knowing a few people who don't like to be out driving on New Year's, i had a New Year's Day party. It worked out very well; we all got to mark the occasion of a new year without the late night.

It just so happened that i volunteered to take in a puppy for 4 days that extended into new year's as the foster family that was taking care of this one for the local animal shelter was traveling for the holidays. So on my party invitation i told people there would be a VERY SPECIAL guest. Everyone was intrigued who it could be.

The puppy loved all the extra attention.

We used to have DD's new year's parties with sleepovers. Now DD will be out of town and DS will have a New Year's jazz gig in another town. Hubby falls asleep at 9, so I will have to throw myself a little party. Sometimes I go outside and watch all the fireworks from my yard.

Dh and I have never really celebrated the holiday together. He used to volunteer to work every New Year's Eve so that he could get Christmas off. Last year was his first year off (no longer at that job). We made a big fancy dinner at home (filet mignon), but I think we probably went to bed before midnight. We have discussed possibly having friends over this year, but we may also go to a relative's party.
My worst New Year's Eve ever I was sitting alone in front of the t.v. with lice shampoo on my head after discovering a half hour earlier that I had caught head lice from a child at the shelter where I was working. I ran out to get the shampoo and watched the ball drop with it on my head. I'm sure I must have been crying at the time, but at least I can laugh in retrospect I celebrated another New Year's Eve on the road, talking on my cell with DH who was at his parent's house for their party. I had just finished working and was on my way there, but everyone was gone by the time I arrived. So, New Year's has never held much excitement for me.

dh has 'volunteered' us to attend an overnighter at a state park being thrown by his sister and her boyfriend. good news is we'll be staying put over night and the food is provided, so we'll be safe and fed. bad news is we don't know how much it's going to cost and i don't think DH understands just how tight this month is... *sigh*

I just got an invitation for a new year's eve party. It said to really dress up, tux or suit and tie for men, dressy for the women. The party starts at 6:30 and ends at 9:30! Who wants to dress up for that??

We don't have any places around here to go on New year's eve. You all come on over to my house and we will have a party!

Sandusky, baby, Sandusky

We're going to visit DH's family for a few days. His mom is ill and will be having surgery in early Jan. Plus I still haven't met my nephew! I don't know what we'll actually be up to, but I'm not expecting much.

My friends invited me to go to a club with them, as I have in the past...but this one is $50+ plus overpriced drinks, plus I'd want to buy a nice outfit for it. I'm still not sure if I'm going to go or not. On one hand I want to spend time with my friends, some of whom I haven't seen in a long time, but on the other I don't want to shell out the dough. Decisions, decisions...

If we do anything at all we will go to our friends house...they usually have an informal thing with lots of great food. We always have a good time there. We won't stay until midnight, though...WAY past DS's bedtime.

Stay home and watch the ball drop and drink some sparkling wine. Then it is off to bed. Boring but enjoyable!

I am all about New Year's Day and the symbolic way we all have a new, fresh year. The night before I'm not so into. I have been asleep the last couple, i think.

Probably stay at home like every year. Well frankly, I don't know. Maybe go out a little bit or work.

I am not a good late night guest or host...I tend to want to sleep by 10pm..

so we usually just stay home.

Poor DH....because he works the 4pm-1am shift at work, he has no problem being a night owl....He and DD3 usually ring it in together...while mom konks out by 11...

I will be in Paris, yep.. actually New years eve day will be in Disneyland Paris and then who knows where we will be a the event.. Its my big last time I will be able to have a big vacation because Iwont be able to afford it for a long time after I get back and buy a house which leads to kids which lead to no money and rare vacations.... But dont worry.. im credit card debt free and have savings to cover it and a good solid downpayment savings that wont be touched... oh its also my "i just go my first bonus and im blowing i all on this vacation" vacation. hehe..

Firstly, I have to say that I found this comment EXTREMELY funny! I was expecting you – the one who started the thread and asked the question – to have some elaborate NYE plans you wanted to share. I wasn't expecting, "I don't..." So, whether it was intentional or not, thanks for making me laugh!

Now, on to the question...

Ironically, although NYE was never a special thing for me growing up, Mark and I actually have a very strong NYE tradition. It is the only holiday that we've spent together, every year, since we met. The first one was in 2002, when I went to visit him in England for a couple of weeks. We didn't go out but instead stayed in and made a GREAT meal: carbonara, broccoli casserole, garlic bread, sparkling cider and a dessert of some kind. It is, simply put, a heart attack on a plate, but SOOOOO GOOOOD!!!

Then we watch a DVD of some kind -- "The Office" (British version), "Lord of the Rings" or something geeky like that -- then watch the ball drop at midnight. Mark never usually makes it that long, the last two years he's dozed off before then, but that's ok. It's still a nice tradition, and I now look forward to NYE every year.
