Default Need Purchasing Advice

Okay folks I need some advice. My shredder appears to have died - it will reverse the papers but not go forward. So, it looks like I may be in the market for a new shredder. I know I want a cross-cut one, but does anyone have recommendations on a brand that you've had good luck with? Hopefully one that won't break the bank.

Anyone???

I am still too stubborn to buy one. I use the scissors method! Very therapeutic whilst watching TV or listening to music!

We either burn it in a burning barrel or you can shred items by hand but put them in more than one garbage container. SO if you are say cutting up an exp'd credit card, cut it up & put some pieces in the kitchen garbage, bathroom garbage, ect as people won't think about you doing that they'd just assume the entire thing is in the one bag. Just an idea.

I have a basic shredder but I can't recall where it is in the basement *LOL*

I thinking cutting the stuff up with a scissors is the most cost effective way to do it....afterall that is all that a shredder does. So get the scissors out and do it that way, if you do it as it needs to be done and dont let it accumulate it is not such a big job

My husband brought me one home as I needed to shred patient information for work (I work at home).

He bought it at Costco and it says Executive Machines EP5-1501X.

I use it a lot, but luckily not for patient information anymore. I shred just about everything I can, all junk mail, envelopes, etc and then it goes to the recycling center.

I have a shredder that doesn't work. It isn't moving with me. We use the fireplace in the winter. DS2 likes to cut paper, maybe he can be my shredder since the new house doesn't have a fireplace!

For a long time, I would take the junk mail and cut out any important information like our name and addresses on envelopes or the letterhead. I have a shredder, but I don't think that you have to shred the whole sheet. I see people doing that and you only have to get rid of the main information. It only takes a few minutes. On the other hand, checks are different because they have so much information on them. I try to daily get rid of junk mail so that it doesn't add up. I have to do that because I'm a paper junkie.

Like Aleta, I just cut off the personal info and usually then recycle the paper. Sometimes I compost it, after tearing into smaller pieces. I do this with other paper, too. When someone gives me paper shreds (I do not have a shredder), I have a way to use them as an "undermulch" in my garden, where they enrich the soil, keep weeds down, and help retain soil moisture....If it came from the earth, I try to return it to the earth. Sorry no purchasing advice.
