Re: Need help with my debat this friday.
Hey guys, I did the debate (with an e this time haha..) I wish I could type French here but there's no accent on my keyboard.
It was okay, the girl was not aggressive at all. She was so nice but I end up getting defensive on my side. We repeat a lot of our arguments though. I started out with : It's a choice. The reason why it's so popular it's because many people watch it and they like it, there's no good or bad about it. It's a form of entertainement like any other tv shows like comedy, drama, game shows, etc. They all have their good and bad sides.
She talked about the bad things in reality shows and that we don't learn much. I replied back and said: Yeah so is the other tv shows, we don't learn much either like game show ; we learn to win a million dollars. wow! That's a good form of education.
After awhile, I got a little fed up and I told her : Regarde, si t'aimes pas la tele-realite, t'as juste a ne pas le regarder. I burned her but I was pretty fed up by the theory that the reality is the baddest thing there is on tv.
Near the end of the debate, the moderator asked her a question, then all of sudden, they started arguing about it. I was so confused, I started asking myself if the moderator is allow to debate too. So yeah, the teacher stopped our debate and she asked the student if they have any arguments for both side. About a ten of so students gave us our opinion about tv reality and most of them think it takes too much place in society. I told them : Well yeah! People like to watch those kind of tv shows. They ignored me though... -.-" I don't think there should be any debate about this at all. It's a matter of choice, you don't like it, don't watch it. I'm sure you'll find something else on tv.

Re: Need help with my debat this friday.
I think they play too large a role in our society - and I think they are a completely inaccurate portrayal of how things actually are in the real world. Especially the ones school-age people watch: I.e. Mtv's supersweet 16, Laguna Beach, Real World -- (and because of the subject of this forum) - I think that these shows can contribute to people's unrealistic ideas about money & material objects.

yeah, the MTV brattykid shows (and bridezillas, where ever that is on) drive me APE-POOP and frustrate me to no end. it's not even just the money, it's the whole attitude you hear on S16 & Bridezillas "It's MY day, this is supposed to be about ME." blah blah blah. makes it look like it's completely ok and socially acceptable to be self-centered, demanding, inconsiderate, and rude.
most of them remind me of veruca salt on the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"

I still don't see this as a big deal. I've seen these attitudes on teen movies. Don't know what you guys are talking about since I don't watch MTV, but I've heard of sweet sixteen shows.

When I was in debate The judges were not allowed to argue! but hey that was eons ago.
The other thing I learned in debate as a teen..if you cannot understand the other side you cannot defeat it....Which doesn't make it too easy! the style I did though had you alternating sides, by the end of the 'season' you get rather good because of all the practice at both sides.
