Where to get a tux inexpensive

So I know its not frugal, but I am going to a fund raiser that is black tie (I was sponsored by a company so no I am not paying). I am going to rent a tuxedo for the night but would like to pick something up thats not to expensive for future events like this. Anyone give some advice on where to pick one up inexpensive?

We had to buy a tux for my son who is a music major and had to wear one for some performances. I believe we bought one at a Men's Wearhouse and it has been in use for 7 years now. They will alter it whenever it needs it for free I think. I know they have altered the sleeve length. I don't remember how much it was, but think poor college student parents....can't have been much. And it has held up for all these years, including the fact that he throws it into his trunk half of the time and leaves it there. Guess the quality has been good. It is just a good basic style. We also bought the studs and a shirt here and there through the years--they seem to have nice ones there, also. A tie and shoes. All still around.

I purchased a tux. Regret it. I thought I'd use it more often. Looking back, it would have been cheaper to rent it each time. Plus, after 10 years I got a little pudgy and it stopped fitting, so I eventually had to rent one anyhow. I'd say, unless you know you're going to wear it very regularly, rent. I'd recommend the Mens Warehouse and join their rewards program.

CashHappySon got one for his upcoming May 07 Prom date - he's already been invited - at a garage sale for $10.00 - which included also the shirt, cumberbund and tie! Woohoo!! Was he and his Mom excited!!??!! uhhh...YES!!

I've been garage saling for years and this is the first one I've ever seen. We'll likely have to have the sleeves shortened just a bit if he doesn't grow more, but still think it will be cheaper than renting. If not, I've been known to do a bit of altering in my time and could probably make-do with something that only has to hold up for one evening.

Who knows, this may be his wedding tux as well. Although we may have to spring for a new cumberbund and tie unless his bride is good to go with red? Perhaps we can convince her to have a Valentine or Christmas wedding?

First we must get a bride whom to coerce! On to the dance! Of course she must be orphaned so that all future holidays can be spent at my house and I won't have to share my grandchildren w/those other clingy people who'd almost certainly try to horn in!

Seriously - Try a resale shop. Better yet find a hospital that runs a thrift or resale shop -- all those doctor's wives clean out their husband's closets from time to time....seems like a more likely place to find one.
