I used to keep a list of all products I refused to purchase simply because the advertising either annoyed me or repelled me in some manner.
After 911 most of the annoying ads disappeared, but I've noticed over the last year that plenty of the public service announcements are disgustingly irritating - so much so, that I often stay tuned to commercial free National Public Radio, NPR is the only place to avoid all those Loud Mouth Exhibitionists. For the past half year I've had to use the remote REPEATEDLY to get that miserable "HEAD ON" noise pollution out of my home. I am seriously irritated with CNN for selling HEAD ON so much commercial time, and obviously CNN doesn't respect their viewers or they wouldn't subject us to this CRAP. Nowadays, I see that the HEAD ON Marketing Department really has a high opinion of its "Cuteness" quotient; now they start out with 2-3 sentences of their appallingly vulgar ad and then a person walks on screeen and proclaims how much they hate the advertisement, but love the product. I will NEVER purchase HEAD ON, no matter what coupon, no matter what discount, no matter what rebate. I wouldn't accept a piece of their crap product for FREE - and I am very serious. They seriously disrespect the people they are subjecting to their vile stupid ads. Yes!! HEAD ON is NOT allowed in my home, and if they keep spending billions on ads on all of cable, then I'm getting rid of cable. How dare those cable networks accept such disgusting advertising? Have you ever gotten THIS irritated by a commercial advertisement? If so, please share - what was the product and what was the most annoying part of the commercial? |

Oh yeah, the "little girl" in the ads - that's becoming a real archetype, and I don't understand why. I actually did not like the P&G circular this month, there's a young boy dressed as a cowboy for Halloween, going trick n' treating with a liddle widdle cutsie wootsie pic little girl who is dressed as a lavender twinkletoes fairy, I think. Anyway, with all the recent footage of JonBenet Ramsey played repeatedly on all the news channels, I really don't like the way P&G did this month's circular - there's like a dozen pics of the cutsie pootsie wootsie liddddle widdle girl, and only a few of the older boy. I don't know what they're teaching in marketing classes nowadays, but it obviously isn't influencing me to buy much, hey? Seriously, I'm creeped out by the P&G Halloween "special" -- it's like, welllllll, geeeeeesh, no wonder boyz are doing so poorly in skoooL if they really are such second class entities. |

The only television commercial that's impressed me in years was the one by United Airlines which is entirely music.
I was shocked. It was so strange to see something genuinely classy flowing out of those normally tacky yucky marketing multinational corporate offices. There was not one word spoken on the United Airlines commercial, and it was so classy I was speechless -- it's been decades since ANY classy or sophisticated or genuinely humorous commercial has been created. |

Dust In The Wind is a song about Buddhism and related philosophies. Using it to sell anything would be offensive to me, but using it to sell something as materialistic as expensive new cars is especially offensive. Unfortunately my opinion is very much a minority view. Most of the commentary about this commercial deals only with how clever and effective it is. Before this commercial, Subaru was near the top of my "cars I like" list, but now it would be a cold day in Hell before I buy even a used one. I may cool down and take them off my boycott list after 5 or 10 years, but certainly not before that. And I will always have at least a slight bias against them because of this commercial. In case you haven't seen that commercial, here's a description from http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...11/137234.html The new television spot, "Dust in the Wind" is designed to change the way the world looks at an SUV. In one scene, an SUV pulls up and stops at a red light. A driver in a Subaru B9 Tribeca pulls up alongside the SUV. When the B9 Tribeca pulls away, we see the SUV has turned to dust. In another scene, a passing Subaru B9 Tribeca leaves a parked SUV covered in cobwebs. In the finale, the B9 Tribeca passes a car carrier full of SUVs. The SUVs turn to dust and are blown away in the wind; all to the music of "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. To view the new Subaru ad visit http://www.subaru.com/Dust (video requires Javascript and Macromedia Flash)Related, but not a TV commercial: I have often worked the night shift and slept during the day, so I have more reason than most to dislike people knocking on my door to sell me something or push their religion. Because of that, I have a BIG sign on my door that says, "Do Not Disturb. Please do not knock on this door!" The only door-to-door people who have ever ignored it were a pair of salesmen for an electricity provider (a power company). They came up on the porch, saw the sign, one read it out loud, and then they knocked LOUDLY, paused, and knocked LOUDLY again! The only reason I didn't open the door and chew both their heads off is because I make it a point to never argue with total a--holes. So, the Devil will be ice skating all the way from one side of Hell to the other with the Archangel Gabriel by his side before I even consider buying electricity from that company! |

Thank you all!!!!
I'm so glad that others also get outraged by some of the tripe broadcast on the Idiot Box. ![]() |

We have casino ads that air here telling me to come on down and 'Start Living'! I always have a hard time keeping myself from screaming at the screen "And what do you think I'm doing right now, you idiots!??!"
....then I think to myself..."I'm screaming at an inanimate object - so yeah L.L.Frugalis go get busy doing something else!! Go get a life girl!" Duhhhhh!!! CLICK! Power Off. ...fade to black. They really do irritate me though, as so many people are sucked into the mentality that if people DON'T do this casino gambling thing, there is something wrong with them. There's nothing so wrong with me that a good swift right click on the TV remote won't fix!! |

That is the one that got me started on NPR, and it also made me realize that there are many radio stations out there who don't care if one of these stupid loudmouth ads offend their viewers, all they want is that money-money-money and they don't realize/care that the viewership is more important than selling time to broadcast offensive commercials over the air. I have absolutely no "loyalty" to any of the radio stations because of the grotesque greedy practices of their ad agents. I'm positive they are responsible for the massive growth in NPR listenership and for the great popularity in ad-free satelite radio. |

Oh yes! There's one on right now, the ad for the Panasonic plasma TV. Things left disasterously undone or neglected all over the house (buffer running unattended on car, water pouring down the stairs, etc.) as the adult in the house stares mesmerized at his TV sunset. Clearly Panasonic plasma TV's are mind control devices. I'll buy a Sony!
And I'll never, ever buy a hoagie (submarine sandwich in Phillyese) from Slack's Hoagie Shack, after they bought advertising on the local radio station that required every big Eagles tackle to be described as "that could be the Slack's Hoagie Shack Whack of the Game!" Over, and over, and over... |

Commercials make me want to pull out my hair and stuff it down my throat! I know it's extreme, but it saps the life out of me - having to wait for 2-4 minutes, and being forced to watch drivvle that makes me sick to my stomach!
Commercials has been something that has IRRITATED me for a long time, and that is why I don't watch television that often (mostly movies), I find myself getting annoyed when I do. |

I've been watching only a small amount of TV, too, but this weekend I wanted to learn more about that weird old videotape with Mohamed Atta -- it didn't even look like the same person! -- so when I had a few spare minutes I'd channel surf between CNN, FOX News and MSNBC - and that MISERABLE "Head ON - apply directly to the 4-HEAD!!!!!!!!!!" came on again and again and again.
They think they are so smart, that is what they call 'Branding,' and they made an utterly atrocious piece of Noise Pollution believing that since everybody will remember the word HEAD-ON, that they will buy it. I hope their miserable marketing ploy fails, I hope others remember to never buy anything from such a rude company, ![]() rofl! |
