I have to agree with the person who asked what's to celebrate, unless of course you happen to be a member of a religious group that considers that day important. I know some people who are membersof such a group. I don't celebrate. If someone comes to my door I do give something out, accompanied by a note explaining why it isnt a holiday for Christians.

Actually it is less a Christian Holiday and more of a pagan event of Celtic origin. It is sort of like Santa Claus representing Christmas. While for Christians All Souls Day is important the pagan rites of dressing in costume are not Christian in origin.

It is pretty much a secular event for this Christian fella!

We will be going to trick or treat at a local church. They have games and activities for the kids that are all age appropriate and they win candy, and they have rooms that just give candy out. They also have a little mini carnival out in their parking lot. It's a safe environment in this big city and I won't have to worry so much about what's going into his bag. It ends up being a lot of fun for the whole family and we get to spend time together. I took my DS to it last year and the pony rides and petting zoo were a big hit. He was Woody from Toy Story last year and he will be Superman this year. His grandparents always buy the costumes(so I don't have to spend a dime on anything- I like that!), and they come with us to see the grandkids having a good time. DD is going to wear DS's first halloween costume-a pumpkin. I say let them load up on as much candy as possible, it will last for special treats for awhile, and I have a sweet tooth so...
