Default What was I thinking...

This also may have been done before. But in the what was I thinking category, I discovered recently that I have way too much jewelry for a person who doesn't wear alot. Not many expensive pieces, just too much. If I only had the money I spent on all that......My Hubby thinks I have too many books. My daughter has too many stuffed animals (we could have funded her college education with those) and tons of shoes. The animals stayed here in her closet. The shoes moved out with her. What do you have too much of in the what was I thinking category.....

Me too! I literally have clothing in 6 different sizes--from the "maybe if I lose 40 pounds" to the "what if I gain 10 pounds?"

I really need to sort it out and get rid of it!

I have way too much jewelry. I never wore jewelry in my life except 2 rings. I started watching QVC and now I have a ton of it. I have over 50 rings alone!

It seems the only QVC that I see much of is jewelry, too. Bought my share of it a few years ago.

I have a huge box of beanie babies from that craze a few years ago and also some 'collectable' barbie dolls that are probably worth what I paid for them, if I am lucky.

we had tons of stuff but we've started streamlining... from elementary through high school my mom would buy me stuffed animals from garage sales, many still with tags...i would give them away a little at a time and then i finally cleaned them out my last year of college and donated 3 50 gal. trash bags full to a christmas toy drive...
i also had a precious moments collection... not much, 40 or so pieces bought at garage sales when i was in high school... got tired of them and sent them to my sister in CA who collects them...
maybe too many craft supplies? i have lots of XS books and magazines that i bought/were given to me... am slowly sorting thru them, keeping those with patterns i love and selling the rest... i also had other craft supplies but gave them to family members to use... my sister scrapbooks so i gave her my stamps, inks, stenciling things, scrapbook suppiles,etc...

i like looking nice but most of the time i'm not much of a make up person... i go for the natural look... my daily makeup in high school consisted of 2 tubes of lip gloss... one clear and one neutral color... so how did i get so much makeup?... mostly they snuck up on me thru family and garage sales... my mom and grandma give me their "free gifts" and i find it hard to resist quality makeup and other girlie products, especially brand new, at garage sales...i recently cleaned it out and am giving some away to friends and selling some of the brand new stuff that i never used...
that's all i can think of...

I have too much electronics stuff.

Well... did anyway. I've sold most of it since then. Currently, I'm down to a laptop and a desktop, but the laptop I use everyday (and in fact am typing this response on it).

Now if I can just figure out what to do with that last desktop PC....

Most of my too much when I notice it I ditch it..stuffed animals..several times a year we prune...

Jewelry...I pruned in one fell swoop one day..my daily wear is my 4 rings..my special wear I ad my engagement ring and prekid emerald...thats it..oh and one necklace, which my son broke, it was repaired but that only lasted a week ...anyway NONE of the other jewelry has been worn in eons, so I ditched most of it, I still have the necklace my gma gave me though, that is for DD when she is a bit older..

electronics..I try to get DH to downsize..but not much moves him that way...

Most conspicuously, I have a collection of classical music on CD. I've been amassing it for the last 25 years, and according to my database I have 2,590 titles. Since the collection includes multi-disc sets, the total is probably significantly larger. Last time I weeded, I gave 400 titles to the library.

Books -- well, I'm a retired academic, and books are an occupational hazard. I weed, sell and give away on a regular basis, so the total stays at roughly a couple of hundred volumes.

I share Broken Arrow's computer fetish, running a 3-PC LAN. In my case it also extends to boxes of drives, cables, PC cards, obsolete software (I'm set if DOS ever comes back.), miscellaneous hardware.

Like many, I have a surplus of clothing, all in Goldilocks-and-the-three-bears sizes -- too large, too small and just right. I'd prefer not to talk about footwear. I'm a difficult size, so if the shoe fits, I buy it.

Aside from that . . . not much.

3 PCs, 1 laptop, several brand new in the box HDs bought at great prices, and other computer misc items.

I also have a huge collection of 95% finished projects, which gives the wife something to nag me about...constantly.

And a garage full of clutter!

Books that I bought for my kids to read while we were homeschooling. If it was possible that they might have time to read it and it looked good? I bought it! Just now trying to decide how to deacquisition them from our library!

Ho-hummm...which ones might I still read myself compared to the hassle of just going to the library to pick them back up if in the future I find myself w/time on my hands vs. going ahead and selling them at the homeschool resale shop!

Decisions, decisions...and I know going thru them will take a long while (stopping myself from piling them all in the KEEP pile and stopping myself from reading instead of sorting) and it will take a very strong will to get rid of them! ARGH!!!

Hundreds of Readers Digest magazines, from 1917 to the October 2006 issue. I inherited probably 50 or so when my aunt passed away, then starting picking old ones up at garage sales here and there...bought a few off E-Bay...and of course, saved all my issues from the last 10 years I have subscribed.
Now do you think I can find anyone to buy or even give them away to???

Video tapes. When my kids were young I would just pick up a video tape "here and there". Well, now we have Barney, Elmo, Pokemon, you name it. And, nobody even watches them anymore. The fact of life is that it is just easier for them to turn the cartoons on and watch what is on. So, I try not to buy too many. Now, if I buy, I consider it for a movie night and it is cheaper to buy or rent a tape than go to the movies. But, I would rather rent because then I can get it out of my house!

I prefer to borrow from the library or my bro, he has plenty and he never seems to mind, he does seem confused though when he gives me a movie (after replacing the VHS with DVD) and I give it back...after we watch it, it is just unlikely we will be watching it again in the near future (never is often fine) I see no reason to keep it! More movies, just makes more temptation to watch, and the last thing I need is temptation to do nothing!

Books used to be much harder (I still have plenty) but I started putting any books I would not feel bad if my kid did not read (like some of the calahan books) in the good will pile imediatly..I read it, I can borrow it if I want to read it again. But I have the hardest time with other books that I havn't read in ages, I mean I want to read them, but I don't have much time, and everytime I go to the library I get a new book to read!

But the startling moment, was when I borrowed an old piers anthony book (crewl lye) I HAVE the book! I think., but I was in the mood to read it, and I knew where it was at the library! (under science fiction, P .) at home I would have to explore the attic in hopes of finding it! and even then it may be in my brothers house, or mothers, or fathers...no clue...so I finally find it easier to give them away

haha... i love them too... i read a lot as a kid and got hooked at the young age of 10 when my i visited my great aunt and she gave me one to read... upon seeing how much i liked them she ended up giving me a whole box of old ones to read... i don't remember what happened to them but i know i probably sped thru them as i remember reading bags and boxes worth of books when i was that age... i would get on my bike, pedal to the library, and fill my backpack up once a week...

cschin,
i think we have too many videotapes too... boxes and boxes that we are going to start sorting thru soon as FIL just bought one of those DVD recorder things where you pop the tape in one side and record it onto DVD... have no idea what we're going to do with the tapes though...
if we can't sell them even dirt cheap (5 or 10/$1) then we will most likely freecycle to give them away to whoever would like them...

Clothes, and fabric to make even more clothes....
I am weeding down the fabric though, making costumes. My kids go to a Christian School, and every year use the sheets from home for costumes. So, I am just making some, a little at a time to give to the school for play/production use, using up my fabric, and also using up sheets that fit beds that we no longer have.
