Default Need part time job ideas

I am currently working 2 hours a day, at school, from 3:30-5:30, doing the after school care. I have decided to try and find a morning job, from around 9 or 10 to 2 p.m. I only want to work a couple days a week though, and no weekends. This would just be for extra cash-maybe even something seasonal.
I just got the paper today, and it doesn't seem the employeers around here advertise for help. A quick drive thru town though, showed several help wanted signs in windows.
I got to thinking, it would be nice if I could find something that I also could get a discount on--so, I thought I would apply at the propane gas company (I saw on their website where their employees get propane at cost). Also, the local feed store where we buy our feed and farm supplies gives their emplyees a 10% discount.
Does anyone know of any other types of businesses that give their emplyees a discount? There is no Walmart around here for 30 miles, so don't suggest it. The local grocery store does not give discounts (I asked a girl at church who works there).

gas station?
bank?

Though if I were you I would rather work for myself, thru months of trying to find a part time job that fit into my life, I finally realized I do not want to block off that much time...DH started his poker thing, not a fortune not minimum wage or anything but more than zero. I would love to get paid to help people teach.. but somehow I have more faith in his poker playing skills than my writing

Even if you can't think of anything you want to do now, leaving it in the back of your mind as you go thru life, someday you ight hit on the right thing, or the wrong one, but so long as it was just effort (low cost), try try again.

WE don't want our kids to quit the first time a project doesn't go as planned, so I wont either..which is a pep talk to me, nothing to do with you really..sorry.

Gas stations and banks don't give employee discounts-.
I did find there were 3 propane suppliers in town (I only knew of one-as I just moved here a couple months ago). If I could get on at one of them, since we use propane heat (and the hot water heater), and employees get propane at cost, in addition to what I would earn, I could save us around $1300 a year (tax free) on filling our tanks.
If I could get on at one of the feed stores (who discount feed and farm supplies), it would save us about $75 a month in feed.
I am trying to go for the "double whammy" here.
Currently I work 10 hours a week at the girls school. I get a little money for it, BUT, I get a discount on their tution. So the job actually pays me 2 ways. I'd like to get another sweet deal like that.

I wish I had an idea for you. I am very impressed with your idea to affect your finances from two directions. If I do think of anything I'll let you know.

One suggestion for you is to clean houses. It's great pay, and you can select the hours you can work. I know a few people who do this and they enjoy it. Obviously, it'll only work out if you don't utterly HATE housecleaning! hehe

Hope this helps,
Christina

Yes, I would love a good house cleaner. I would also pay someone to come over and teach me something about computers. Delivering pizza??

I think this shows that there are a lot of ways you can make a little extra money in your spare time. Maybe the first thing you should do is write down what your talents are. For instance: cooking, computers, gardening (or whatever.) And then you can figure out if you have a service that would be helpful to people in your area.

Hugs,
Christina

Performance art - buy yourself a grey wig. Paint yourself gray, wear a grey outfit & set out the tin cup. What are you? You're standing in the courthouse square as a statue silly!! Of course you've got to be able to stand very still and put up w/a bit of pigeon danger, but hey, it's different**!!

Window washer? Squeegie, bucket & windex.

Shoot there must be a lot of minimal investment ideas. Look in a kids book at the library for earning extra dough - it just might help spark your creativity.

If you lived closer I'd pay you to come over and weed my flower beds.

Oh yeah, that's right I have a teen here who could do that for me...Oh CashHappySon, weren't you wanting some money to buy yourself ________? Have I got a job for you!!

Beauty shops always need someone to sweep and clean the restrooms. Just walk in and ask. If you get hired and hang around long enough you may become a wash girl. They make $10 per head, pretty good money on a busy day.

If it's benfits you're looking for for few hours, I'd think about public employment. Even part timers may be able to get something at retirement. For the hours you want, perhaps a local zoo? Data entry work? Nursery school? Hostess/waitressing? Working as a "floater" at a department store covering lunch hours? JCPenney used to give a 40% discount on work type clothes, don't know if they still do. I think what you are already looking at will meet your needs best, just trying to brainstorm some alternatives...

I don't need the benefits, really, we are getting by, so really don't need the money--but we have large farm bills--tractor payment, fuel bills, propane and feed. What I am trying to do is to get a part time job at one of those places, so that I can get the products we use so much here at the farm at a cheaper rate. In the long run, I would rather make less (and pay less taxes) and get the items at lower price. To fill the propate tank this year will be around $1600. If I could get on with a propane company, they get the gas at 40% off....
Cleaning houses would not do what I am trying to do.

Is there a John Deere place in town? I hear they are one of the best places in the US to work.

John Deere is a place I will check out when we pick up the mower (its there now being repaired again-I break it every time I mow, but its all been covered so far under the warrenty).
Since we have cattle, horses and like...maybe I will check with the vet also.
As for delivering pizzas--this po dunk town has no pizza places, and years ago when I worked at one, I could still make a pizza cheaper than I could buy it for at the 1/2 off for employees!! Plus, the gas for delivering them is not practable in this town.
My town (nearest one that is-I am in the country) has 1 bank, 1 gas station and a grocerystore-post office combo--like on the Waltons.... Thats it, except for the schools.
However, my kids go to school the next town over, and it has several businesses in it.

Have you thought about working from home? That saves the gas from driving to work and you can choose your own hours.

I just applied at LiveOps (lots of info if you run an internet search) to take call center calls in my home. I am raising 11 month old twins by myself and this will allow me to work early, early morning and late nights when they are sleeping. I can also pick up hours (if available) if a friend is here to help me. You won't get a discount but can avoid some of the cost of working. I am going to try to eliminate (pay with my calls from LO) my internet and phone bills and make an extra $200 per month above and beyond what I will have to pay in taxes. It is a contractor job.

You may want to check out wahm.com. They have a forum there of legitimate at home job opportunities. Very active board of people that post their experiences with companies.

I am always working on developing several income streams.

if you have to mix buying and working..make a list of what you buy...I know you are great with a budget so grab it and call all of them...even a phone company might offer bonuses..if you haven't found anything by the botom of the list..then maybe you don't buy enough stuff

I know this won't work for you mom-from-missouri because of your location, but others may want to consider a movie theatre. Generally you get paid, and get to see free movies on days off with your family. No discounts on the food though...that's where they make all the money. My husband has worked on and off for a local movie theatre company for about 18 years and we've never paid for a movie...now we are moving away so we won't have that benefit anymore.
