If you had a theme song... what would it be
I'm looking for music to live by these days. And I'd love to hear your ideas.
For a long time, my theme song was probably "Under Pressure" by Queen.
Or a song from the late 80's early 90s. The only lyrics I remember are :
I quit, I give up, nothing's good enough for anybody else...it seems. (Artist unknown)
But those aren't the ones I want in my head anymore. So... I'm trying to replace them. Can you help me?
Please, if you can provide the artist as well (I don't know my bands very well, so any info you can give might make it easier for me to find it and get it on my playlist )

If you want something inspiring you might try "The River" by Garth Brooks

I've lived by "It's My Life" by Talk Talk for 22 years. I never get tired of it.
And their "Spirit of Eden" album is brilliant.

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
I have none, but generally when I have to face a decision..like life not going my way..and I can't have it all..(I just read Tinas stuck thread..to many goals)
I have "know when to fold em, know when to hold em, know when to walk away, know when to run" in my head. I think the real name is the gambler..but I don't know the artist..
when I thinkt he day will never end I like "tomorrow' (sung by Annie)
when I wake up and want to remind myself how good the day is I like "this is the day, this is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made" (and then I ask myself what am I going to do with this day He gave me?

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
Long-term, it would have to be the old Frank Sinatra standard:
"I Did It My Way."

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
I don't know if I really have a theme song, but a song that inspires me is "That I Would Be Good" by Alanis Morisette.
It reminds me to get off the treadmill and live life based on my own set of values, not what society dictates. It's about accepting yourself as you are and having the grace and fortitude to realize that being imperfect is still OK.

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
Im NOT a big Michael Jackson fan...but I would have to go with Man in the Mirror.
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could've been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that...
Change!

And I'm NOT a Stones fan, but I do sing this one whine-stopping line occasionally to my kids and to myself:
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes, you just might find
You get what you need.

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
The river by garth is good as is Kenny Rogers the gambler as mentioned above.
I also like -- 'I hope you dance' by Lee Amm Womak .. check out the second verse.
I Hope You Dance
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat, but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give fate a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance, I hope you dance
(This second verse is my favorite)
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances, but they're worth taking
Loving might be a mistake but it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out, reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean.
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens.
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance.
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Dance, I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
repeat 1x
I hope you dance

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
Ah bookie, I know we are a lot alike. My favorite song is My Way, (sung by Elvis.) I have a framed copy of the sheet music signed by Paul Anka, here in this room. (The Gambler, was sung by kenny rogers,"know when to hold them, know when to fold them')BTW, Paul Anka wrote "My Way"

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
Well, I don't know what, exactly, would be mine...
but I think the theme song from the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls would sum up my recent past rather nicely:
Quote:
When you see a guy reach for stars in the sky
You can bet that he's doing it for some doll.
When you spot a John waiting out in the rain
Chances are he's insane as only a John can be for a Jane.
When you meet a gent paying all kinds of rent
For a flat that could flatten the Taj Mahal.
Call it sad, call it funny.
But it's better than even money
That the guy's only doing it for some doll.

Re: If you had a theme song... what would it be
and in answer to your original post GTBDF, it was Edie Brickell's "Circle"
Me, I'm a part of your circle of friends
and we notice you don't come around
Me, I think it all depends
on you touching ground with us.
But, I quit. I give up.
Nothing's good enough for anybody else
it seems.
And I quit. I give up.
Nothing's good enough for anybody else
it seems.
And being alone
is the best way to be.
When I'm by myself it's
the best way to be.
When I'm all alone it's
the best way to be.
When I'm by myself
nobody else can say goodbye.
Everything is temporary anyway.
When the streets are wet --
the color slip into the sky.
But I don't know why that means you and I are
- that means you and....
I quit -- I give up.
Nothin's good enough for anybody else it seems.
But I quit. I give up.
Nothing's good enough for anybody else it seems.
And being alone
is the best way to be.
When I'm by myself it's
the best way to be.
When I'm all alone it's
the best way to be.
When I'm by myself
nobody else can say...
Me, I'm a part of your circle of friends
and we notice you don't come around.
