What simple things give you joy in your life?

I am working away ( I work from home) and my beautiful chocolate Labrador retriever, Gracie, came over and nudged me to throw her toy. Of course, I complied, and watching her run after it and get all excited about it is really one of my simple pleasures!

That got me thinking, where you are simple pleasures in life?

Each of my two cats jumped into my bed last night and nudged me to throw their toys over and over again. I can't say it was one of my simple pleasures because it was at 4:00 am ...

I love an outdoor shower after a day at the beach.

My Chihuahua Belle gives me so much joy!

Now that our three sons are out on their own (we hope!), we love to go to the park, go out for ice cream cones, visiting the Falls (Niagara/American) as we live within 20 minutes of them, and our time spent reading and communicating to each other about what we read.

I have been aching to share this somewhere appropriate!

Yesterday a young girl at my son's childcare center made a picture for me. Her teacher, my husband and I were surprised: no one else's mother was given this. I didn't even know the girl. I did write her a thank you letter. It's a pretty picture, addressed to me, and I have it up in the living room.

Listening to Fats Waller's music has been a cheap thrill and instant soother.

Walking by a neighbor's garden, hugging my family, taking my scooter out for a rural runabout, a backrub, eating fish and chips at a seaside boardwalk.

I was going to add "doing the NYT Crossword," but it isn't always simple!

Why not? It's the oldest "simple joy".

Of course, it does bring to mind the old proverb--

It is not economical to go to bed early to save candles if the results are twins!

Joy for me is listening to music, being alive - appreciating the fact I am healthy (not something I always had), a stoll in the weather even if it's raining (lightly), sight (looking at the clouds, stars, nature), counting my blessings, a good day at work, a suprise, baking, someone else's thoughtfullness or kindness. Having the time to read for pleasure.
