How long have you had your mattress for? Do you turn it regularly. I know I should but it is hard to do by yourself. I too am looking for a new mattress and am looking forward to other's experiences. Especially with those latex ones.

lay on it at least before you buy.
I want one that is about 600 for the set, so far as I can tell having an actualy box spring (not just the box) makes a huge difference. Also I hav heard if you go find your 'sleep number' a good mattress salseman will help you find a mattress you will like (no need for a number changable one if you sleep alone or oif you and spouse both like the same one) |

Argh! They sound great, but it's so expensive!

) Yes, I do turn it once in a while, and I did it again last night. I am certain this particular mattress is on its last leg. |

if you really want to save money..go sleep on the floor, one night on the floor will make you rather greatful for the bed
(and yes I did that..I still want a new one, but I can wait till we have the money saved up) |

We're not even sure what we want--foam, sleep number, innerspring, or what. We're both big, so we tend to be hard on mattresses. I want something that will last more than 5 years! If you're young, normal sized, and don't have any back/spine problems, you can easily get away with just a regular new mattress. You may even be able to pick up a newer mattress on craiglist or the like. Good luck--I hope you find something good! |

Last year I got rid of the mattress that I had shared with my ex-husband and my ex-fiance (not at the same time). The new one is soooooo comfortable, and not just physically. I was going to go with a firm mattress like I have always had, but the pillow top felt so nice ...

I have beautyrest firm mattress with the terrycloth pillowtop. I was expensive but I got the lowest price on that matress after searching several stores. Since I bought it (after my divorce) I slept incredibly well. I spend almost half of my life in bed might as well get something that is comfortable.

My back is killing me too, it feels ok after I get up and move. We need a new one too.

I have a foam one and love it. It was my 'tax refund' splurge (money I had saved in case I needed to pay taxes, which I didn't
so I bought a new bed)! It's the Tempurpedic (sp?) foam bed and it's the best! I love it! No more waking up in the middle of the night, but the first couple weeks were really weird. It just feels so different getting on it....it's not bouncy at all.The nice pillow top is now in the guest bedroom....I am sure my parents prefer it to the blow up queen size air mattress they were sleeping on before! |

If you have an "Original Mattress Factory" in your area, you may want to check them out. This is probably where I will get my next mattress. My current one is a Beautyrest Radiance Luxury model, queen size. Although it was very nice new it was past its prime within a few years, despite regular turning, etc. I'll not pay a premium price for a mattress again. |

we are trying to determine a new mattress too. my dh has horrible back problems and our waterbed is no longer helping. I think it is because we have moved it one to many times. It has springs in it (they are plastic) but no matter how great a waterbed they all break down eventually. So we are considering a pillow top. but the cost is keeping us from it right now. I told him if we have to give up our water bed then we are getting a really good bed. I will not sacrifice a good night's sleep with a bad night on a cheap mattress. Sleep is an area that we must get in order for us to stay healthy and alert. Look at it as a preventive for your health as well.

Well, dh has had back issues for a LONG time. (You don't expect a seriously heriated disc on a 17 year old 150 pound 6' 2" guy with no know injuries, but there you go . . .) Anyway, we're definitely in the flipping/rotating camp, but we're firmly in the ibuprofen camp too. (Often he'll have weeks where his back is bad and then it will get better.) The problem with most mattresses is that you won't know which one works until you try it for at least a week. I have noticed there are a few companies around that offer free trial periods. Those might be worth looking into/asking about. You also might want to consider picking up an ultra high end used one off of Craig's list. That way if it doesn't work for you you can sell it again and not take a huge loss. If the idea of a used mattress is creepy for you consider an allergy pad. That will form a strong barrier between you and any yuckiness. (Also keep in mind that most people don't have too many problems sleeping on a hotel mattress . . .)

actually I didnt' think that it was legal to sell a used mattress? a box spring yes, but I truly thought that selling a used mattress wasn't allowed? I know that you are allowed to give them away. and I know that some people give them away when you buy the rest.

I found a really interesting article on mattresses in general that I think is worth sharing.
Currently still sleeping on the crappy, old set; hanging half my body off the edge where there is still some support. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to go ahead and spend some $$$ on a new mattress soon. Bleack. |

Our pillowtop mattress that we spent over $800 8 years ago...is bad. It's been bad for a few years. I've also had back problems, the back problems have gotten better with exercise and stretching. Now I just don't sleep real well...same with the DH. He's about ready to bring in an army cot since he slept great while in Iraq. But really how would that look with our new bedroom set?
I just dread getting a new mattress and it not working out either. We did try out those foam mattress...the high and low end...both seemed the same. At least those have no springs to give out. I think I'm close to getting one. |

I've found that when my back was really bad that sleeping on the hard floor helped. I may not have had a real sound sleep, but when I woke up the back pain was less and the next night in the bed was better.

I admit it -- we spent a lot on a Sleepnumber bed. But I have back problems that stem from childhood scoliosis and it just kept getting worse and worse.
Anyway, the SleepNumber works great for us. One thing to be aware of, the same number is not the same for everyone. What i mean is, I am 5'5" and weigh 125 and sleep on the bed set at 35. My DH is 5'10 and weighs 195 and sleeps with his side set to 35. His 35 is WAY differnt than MY 35. It's a lot softer. But not to him because his weight is dispersed differently. So someone said you can get a regular mattress if you both like the same number-- that's not necessarily so. Dh falls asleep in milliseconds on the Sleepnumber. I still have trouble sometimes-- but it's the brain and not the back, I think. And most of the time, my back is better. I do adjust my number if we've hiked 6 miles or something -- I like it a tad softer then. But usually I'm between a 30 and 40. OH -- we didn't opt for the pillowtop. Sometimes I wish we had, but really, its fine without. And the set up of it wasn't difficult -- just took about an hour. |

my mattress is the one I had when I graduated the crib. Before that it was my parents full sized guest bed. I flipped it last year when I noticed a spring was coming out. Then I invested $20 in an eggcrate mattress pad, and it made a difference.
I still do need a new one (considering my bed was around before I was) and I know that I want a pillowtop. I just need to save up cash for it. |
