Default "save the date" cards for a wedding and wedding saving ideas

hey all. got a question that someone might know the answer to. We are looking for "save the date"cards for our upcoming wedding, but what we would really like would be the magnetic ones that you mail to people so that they can put them on their fridge. we are looking to do around 200 magnets, depending on much they cost...we might just send them to close friends and family.
anyone know where we can get those, or where we can get them at a decent price?
also, any other wedding saving ideas are welcome, thanks all.

I did a quick Google and found that there are lots of wedding-themed websites which offer personalized magnets for this sort of thing. However, they seem to charge quite a bit -- typically $10-$15 per 10 magnets, plus shipping. Some offer pre-designed, generic "save the date" magnets that are a bit cheaper, but they look pretty tacky to me.

If it were me, I'd use Cafepress.com. That way you could design the 2x3 rectangular magnet yourself (they provide the template) and can get 100 magnets for $85 plus $5 for flat shipping. They also have 2.25" round magnets, $75/100. (You don't say how many magnets you'll need, though.)

I have designed and bought several magnets through Cafepress and they are very good quality. They're not wimpy magnets but the sturdy kind that have a strong magnetic grip. The advantage of this is that they'll hold up for the long term; the drawback is that they may cost you a bit more to mail out to guests.

I have a degree in graphic design as well as the necessary software (Photoshop, etc) so it comes pretty easily to me. If you need some help designing the magnet, let me know. I enjoy doing that kind of thing so it would be free of charge.

we did the save the date magnets and everyone liked them!
Good luck! I can't remember which site we used but we did get
them over the internet. I don't think you really need the heavy duty kind, b/c they
don't really have to last that long of a time.

Big sheets of magnets can be cheap; I got an apprx 12" x 12" for a dollar from the Dollar Tree. It's for crafts. One could print out a nice design, repeated, on the printer with sheets of labels, then cut to size. more work, but low cost and very personal.

This is also an option I had thought of (until this week I worked in a craft store!), but it the savings would only be slight compared to the time it would take you to actually put it all together. And I don't think they would look as nice if done by hand this way.

However, for this method I would suggest printing on decorative paper or card stock and using spray adhesive to stick the paper to the magnet sheets. This way you can use any decorative paper you want (that fits in your printer, that is) and not be limited to the size of the printing labels.

hi and congratulations...
i think if you go to an office supply store they sell "kits" where they have the sheets of pre-cut magnets and matching pre-cut self-adhesive paper that you can run thru the printer, peel, stick on the magnet, and send out... i don't know how good they come out since i didn't use magnets but i've heard of others using them...

i just got married this past february and did lots of things to cut costs but keep it nice... for ideas and maybe inspiration i'd check out this website...
http://bios.magnificentbliss.com/specialty/

it contains all sorts of various bios from the knot... there are different themes, colors, flowers, regional bios, etc... i would definately take the time to look at the "Budget Brides Bio" in the misc. section...it's got tons of information and links to different information sources and links to brides who had beautiful weddings on a budget... there are even some budget breakdowns...

wow, i just scanned it and it's even got a link to instruction on how to make those magnet save-the-dates you wanted... just something for you to check out... i hope it helps... feel free to PM me if you have any questions...

I've used Vista Print many times-- You can design your own magnet.
Their magnets aren't the strongest, but they stick to the fridge and they'll get the job done for reminding people of the date.
You can usually find a coupon online.

We did magnets for ours, too. We went to OfficeMax and got the business sized card magnets. I don't remember how much they were now but they come in packs of 25, 50 and 100 I think. Then, we bought print your own business card paper. Designed the card on the computer, printed it out, peeled off the label from the magnet and stuck it on. They worked well and were cheap and easy to do. Once we got the design done, it took about an hour to put them all together I think.

Good luck!
