I recall hearing (on this site, I believe) that the flouride loses its effectiveness after a year )can't verify the accuracy of this though). So those expired tubes may not be harmful, but they may not be helping either.

toothpaste isn't all that neccessary...bleaching teeth isn't actually good for em (though prettier) and the abrasiveness can be equaled by brushing better. floride is in many peoples water and not proven to be all that it is craked up to be....

I think it I were really out to save on toothpaste I would skip it before buying it from another country...I honestly do not use it for my kids, their teeth are still white, and they don't spit near as well as I would like before trusitng them with floride on a twice daily basis. (I use a whitening formula....)

Why would I pay a whole dollar for toothpaste? Just wait for CVS or Walgreens to put the good stuff on sale BOGO then use a coupon on both of them. (At a drug store you can even use a 5% cash back credit card and almost avoid the tax . . .) It's been a long time since I've spend more than a quarter on a tube of toothpaste and I get the good stuff.

If you know people who had to grow up with nothing but well water, you'd know that fluoridated water is a boon to those who have access to it.

I grew up on well water (still have it) and never had a cavity until I was in my twenties. Neither did my brothers. I still get comments on how white my teeth are. I drink a lot of milk, don't smoke or drink much coffee or tea, brush twice a day religiously...so there are a lot more factors to consider than just flouridated water.

Over the years I have gotten enough toothpaste samples to last me awhile....

Aim toothpaste has the highest rating on consumer report, and it is not much more expensive than a dollar.

As my sig line explains, I have a vested interest in this conversation. I've chosen to respond to PrincessPerky's post, not to pick on her, but because she makes a few really interesting points. Hope this is helpful.

She has fluoride in her multi-vitamin so I do not worry. Brushing with a dry toothbrush is actually beneficial because it gets off more plaque. Sometimes people use too much toothpaste and think they are doing a better job than they really are at getting rid of the yuckies.

...bleaching teeth isn't actually good for em (though prettier) and the abrasiveness can be equaled by brushing better. Fluoride has no bleaching effects whatsoever. It is a mineral that strengthens the outer layer of your tooth. Whitening/Bleaching products are made from completely different materials.

floride is in many peoples water and not proven to be all that it is craked up to be.... The fluoride debate does still exist, although most dental professionals still believe that some fluoride is good for your teeth. There can be negative effects (white spot lesions) from too much fluoride, but it has to be an extremely large quantity to produce these effects on your teeth. Of course, as we already know you NEVER swallow fluoridated toothpaste because it will cause stomach upset...unless you eat an entire tube and then you need to see a doctor (and a psychiatrist!) Also, well water may contain fluoride, depending on where you live. You can have your well water tested to see if you already have a great enough quantity to be beneficial.
