Default Did anyone have to give up one or two goals in life due to financial restriction ?

I used to imagine that I would have a house, marriage and children, and was okay with money when I was a little girl.

Funny where life takes you.

For me, It is still possible for me to achieve that but not on my own. I chose to live in the big cities such as the Bay Area. Yes it’s too expensive for me but the big cities such as San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and so on... have more opportunities for the deaf. In those areas you will find interpreting agencies, more opportunity to find jobs that is not phone or speech related, movies theatres with close captions, plays that have American Sign Language interpretation, Deaf schools which means more social events for the Deaf, Deaf Olympics and sports and I could go on and on.

I am choosing the quality of being able to participate with the general public without too much barriers and enjoy things like everyone rather than stay in Montana where I can probably afford a home within my means but have limitation with the general public with the day to day life.

Anyone had to make a sacrifice?

Practially everybody had to give up some kind of education due to financial restraints. Right now I am finishing my masters but I don't know if I can possibly afford a Ph.D.

I didn't get to go to a really great college, but the one I went to was good enough. Most of the cost was covered by scholarship and I got my degree, so I suppose all's well that ends well.

I didn't get to go to college, but my first financial goal was a house at a young age, and I made that.
I guess I have given up many things, but my life is happy and that is all that matters.

Well I dunno that I will ever get to live in a castle....
I also don't seem to have a backyard pool with a pool boy...nor am I going overseas anytime soon...I don't have my computers on some fancy home network (only one monitor..so even though the network is set up, isn't very useful .)..NO large freezer...it just doesn't fit in the house....

But I do have a roof, and a mosdest house...and plenty of food..and I have more than enough supplies to educate my kids..which doesn't take near as much since I wont send them to public school.

Course I never put a time line on any of those goals, so I don't think they are all 'out the window' just not on my 'todo' list..I do have others on my todo list though. (have 3 months EF)

We bought our first home 2 1/2 years ago. We had to stretch ourselves just to get anything in the crazy NJ housing market. It's not exactly our dream home, kinda small missing a lot of things we would like. But its only our first home and if we waited we would have found ourselves priced out of the market.

I am childless because of finances. I can't even think about adopting.

I've pretty much given up hoping for a career as a millionaire playboy. I don't think I can stay up that late any more.

My past is littered with goals derailed by finances -- books I never wrote, adventures not pursued, opportunities backburnered, relationships . . . Like the song says, "Life got in the way."

What I don't have is a lot of regrets. We make our choices based on our circumstances; then we make the best of those choices. Nobody can have it all, do it all, be it all. Such really is life.

Oh, the sacrifice you made!

I think I would have made a different career choice. I enjoy teaching, but looking back on it, my parents pushed me into it since I didn't think I wanted to be a nurse. They were older and wanted me to get a job they considered stable. I did get a few scholarships, but still had to work to get through college. I would have loved to have gone through law school, but that was out of the question.

After I married and did my graduate work, I still would have loved to go through law school, but changing careers didn't seem like an option. My husband was thinking about retiring in a few years so we didn't think we could afford law school.

Ima, that's the most enticing offer I've had this year. I'm both honored and overwhelmed.

I was accepted into medical school but had no idea how I would pay for it so I didn't go. Instead, I pursued a master's in my field and am doing well. But, I do wonder what life would have been like had I made different choices. But, I am content, have a wonderful home and family with 3 kids so this is where I was meant to be.

I have 2 kids, and #1 reason why I don't want to have any more is because of finances. In order to have at least one more kid, we would have to be able to afford the medical bills, bigger house, provide everything for the kid, I just don't see it possible.

We can hardly afford the small house we have now, I can't wait for my kids to grow up, so I could get normal full-time job without worrying, that childcare will eat up most of my paycheck.

We don't have any debt and never had, except for mortgage, and I rather give up many things in order to stay debt-free.

Can't wait for the kids to grow up! no way I dread them growing up! not really I love every minute now and the future ones, I love the first step, and the first joke, and the first signs of independant reading, and the first steps into chapeter books, and the first bike ride, and first trike ride...I absolutly do not see the need to hurry up my kids course I like my kids more than I would like a full time job...
