My neighbors all do, the guy is there for 20 minutes, cutting about 1 acre. I wonder how much they charge??

My ten year old does a great job mowing and his father edges. It's also great father/son time. They are so proud of their yard.

My husband comes home early on Sundays to cut grass. I just wonder what people pay to have their yard cut.

We pay to have it fertilized. We live a new development and the builders actually (no kidding here) took off the top layer of soil and sold it!! Didn't know that was legal! But basically, nothing grows! Most people here have had to do that.
But no, DH does it and we have two little lawn mowers in the making. There is a lawn service that swoops in and charges $30 a pop! Now that's a way to make some extra cash! |

A timely question. For 10 years i've cut my1.5 acres myself with a walk-behind mower. Exhausting, but good exercise.
After my surgery, i arranged to have a local mower guy i know do it for me for just a few weeks, then decided to splurge and have him do it the rest of the summer. He's doing it for just $30, and i will continue to do the trimming, which he doesn't like to do anyway. For this area, that's a great price; most other guys would charge me $50. For him, i'm a new customer he wouldn't otherwise have, and since i pay him in cash, i have a feeling (whisper) he won't be reporting the income. And for me, it's a huge time saver.

Whoa, Fern! But then, 1.5 acres is quite a bit more than what we have. We have your typical suburban yard. These guys cruise in on riding mowers, make 3 ride byes and they're on to the next yard! It's hillarious! $30 for that!

I see nothing wrong with paying people to do any of the things you don't want to do. Sometimes, you can spend your time in other ways that are more important or valuable to you. I happen to enjoy yard work but if I didn't, I would have no qualms about having someone else cut it. It is just grass. As long as it gets mowed down short enough so the kids can play on it, I am happy.

When I turned 19, I promised myself that I would never again touch a lawn mower -- except in anger. And I never have.
When we had the house, there was a lawn service that came by on a schedule and did most of the yards on our circle for $60 a month, basically April through October. That was about 15 years ago and was a group rate. I'd say Fern got a deal in this day and age. ![]() |

When hubby was in the navy we used to pay for someone to come and mow the lawn. Now that he is in civvy street he does it when he is home. He works away 20 days and is then home for 10. As for payment lets just say its not financial.

I would rather let my lawn grow big and tall than spend $30 or $60 for someone to do it. I do my lawn myself about every 10 days, I would do it more often, but I am saving gas. Dh does the trimming. Then I sweep the grass whatever gets on the sidewalk. Don't want to spend money on a blower. Man, am I too stingy?

My brother bought a law mowing service when he was 17. He charges a minimum of 35 dollars a yard, and up from there is the yard is large or the person wants extra services. At this price, after paying for upkeep on the mowers, gas for the mowers, and gas for the truck to pull the mowers, he barely makes a profit--about 3 dollars a yard. So, 30 bucks a yard is not an extragavent price.

My husband mows our yard, but we pay to have my mom's yard mowed. We live about 12 miles away and I can't mow -- health problems. It's a fairly large yard for a city plot and the guy charges $25. Around here, that's a steal! He's also very fair -- some of the mowers demand they mow every week whether it needs it or not. He mows only when it needs it. Sometimes every week and sometimes he skips a week if it hasn't grown much.

We have 2 acres and hubby used to do all the mowing. Two years ago I had a lawn service do the mowing and edging as a gift to hubby. We have had them every since as they do an excellent job and are approved by the BBB. We couldn't believe they charged us only $60.00 for the whole property!!!

The guy who mows my yard said he has so much business that he feels no need to accept jobs anywhere but in this town! In fall and winter he delivers mulch and shovels driveways.

DH is supposed to be in charge of the lawn, but I think he has about as much interest as I do--which is none! I'm desperate to find someone to pay to cut our tiny little .25 acre suburban wasteland! I think we're just going to suck it up and finish out this year, but my project for next spring is to find a good service. |
