Thumbs down This month's budget buster

So this month's budget buster for me is a broken refrigerator. Have to get a new compressor. The really bad thing is we just went shopping... Loaded up on frozen items, etc. Ouch.

Anyone else dealing with budget busters?

My speeding ticket last week... Don't know the fine yet, and then there's traffic school too.

Our cell phone bill! Hidden costs and all that. We switched phones and they didn't tell us that by switching phones (not companies, mind you, just phone) they charge two months in advance. That and DH went over his minutes since he was away on business. So we owe $360 instead of $110. His company reimburses only $100.

I hear you about the speeding ticket, Jen. Dh just paid for his last week - $155 ($100 fine plus $55 NY surcharge) for going 60 in a 45. Ouch. I hope it doesn't affect our insurance too.
We also had the dog neutered last week - another $150.

Mine was fleas!!!!! Had to flea bomb the home twice!! Chemicals are not cheap! Plus taking care of another pet that is not my own at the house with flea advantage treatment, tons of vacuum bags since fleas/eggs can survive in there, washed everything I owned! Went to laundry matt to wash 17 loads of laundry in one day and had to do it again two weeks later since the first flea bomb did not work. Oh I found out I am allergic to flea bites, very unusual but I got over 40 flea bites and co-payments on three different type of prescriptions was also not expected. Not a good month!!!!!!

speaking of speeding tickets, take special care not to speed thru construction zones... where we live it cost several times the price of a regular speeding ticket... double ouch... luckily we never got one but my dad works construction so he told us...
we don't have a budget buster right now but but my parents and my FIL are renovating... FIL is doing the tub and toilets (5K+) and my parents have been slowly renovating for awhile... so far the ongoing tally, including replacing the front wall of the house, is well over 15k-20K...

My budget buster is the slow motion disaster being orchestrated by my dentist. I'm finally agreeing to a lot of long-postponed remedial work that is costing a small fortune.

My AC isn't working-I don't usually use it much but the heat is just too much to take so I have to get it fixed.
My garbage disposal died, so the drains are backing up-have to call about that today.
And of course my oldest is starting college, but he's responsible for some of that.

30th class reunion. Well, I needed a hair cut anyway; and I really do need a decent skirt that fits (since I doubt I'll lose 20# by Saturday ), so I guess all I'm really out is dinner and drinks; maybe $50.

This month is going to be a nightmare for me financially. I have just over $3600 worth of bills to pay. This is roughly $2800 more than usual. Fortunately thanks to the wonderful people at this site I won't have to put any of it on a credit card as I have it already saved up ready for when this time of the year rolled around.
As for any unexpected blow outs..no..but that may change depending on what my mechanic says tomorrow when I take my car for its roadworthy certificate.

Mine was the car tags & new Il license plates. Even though I knew it was coming and saved the money...I didn't really have it. So it was a cut a little from here, don't put anything in savings, ef or ing to get the money. This month we shall see, it is always something!

My Budget buster is a trip I was planning to go to the army navy football game in december.

Plane Ticket = 118 roundrip from columbus, ohio
ticket = 60

I wasnt planning on paying until it was almost time to go. Turns out they need the money now (as in this week). My friend is going to the academy and he invited me.

Kirbycruiser, especially in this heat!

I am taking notes from this thread! I am trying to set up a savings account for just these pop-up moments. I just added license plate renewals and professional license renewal (for my job). I don't think I'll add speeding ticket to my list of expected expenses though.

I needed new tires last month. They cost $1200. They are the kind that can not go flat because my car is designed not to have a spare, not even a temp. spare.

First ever repairs on my 2002 car. $1100, aaaaaaacccccck. Had to charge it. Got frequent flyer miles or points or cashback or whatever. It will take a bite out of the ol' emergency fund.

We went on vacation for 2 weeks this year. Spent 1 week at the ocean. Then, my sister and her family wanted to meet for a few days the following week at a big amusement park. So, add hotel, food, and gas to that. And, I also bought a wooden playset for the kids for $400 and assembled it myself. But, everything is paid off though I sometimes wonder if we should have skipped all that and put it into retirement funds instead!
