Default The AC is on!

Just an observation: Thus far this year, with a few exceptions, I have held the reins on the AC very tightly. Open windows, the use of fans, a little sweat... but now, temps in the upper 90s and heading into the 100s this week, I'm letting it run as needed with the thermostat set to one temp throughout the day. I hate it because (1) I hate the hot weather, (2) I was finding a source of savings by skimping on power consumption. Ah well...

Heat wave breaking here!!! Assuming we don't have another one I think I've made if for the summer. If it stays in the lower ninety and such for the rest of the summer I should be good. I don't think I've run the AC so little as I have this summer. Barring the visit from the parents and aunt. I don't think I've had it on for more than 48 hours total!

Wow, mine has run every day. I think some people have more tolerance for heat. When we visit my fil in florida they keep the a/c about 85. I like it about 70, but I am keeping mine set at 76 in the daytime, 75 at night. I keep the upstairs one set at 80. My bill will be high this month, I used about 65 kilowatts just yesterday.

I keep mine at 80 during the weekday, 78 at night and on weekends. It may be high compared to some people (SO's entire family, for example) but compared to 100 degrees outside, I think it's pretty good.

You guys will laugh at me! We keep ours at 68. I tried to raise it to 74 while DH was out of town, but he is back and the air is back to 68. Are we wimps or what? But now, come winter, I have no problem with 55!

As I said, some can stand temperatures that others can't. I keep my heat down to about 60 in the winter time. How much is your power bill in the summer, kris10leigh??

I keep mine on at 75. I am a very light sleeper, and even heat and humidity is enough to keep me awake at night. So, to me, it's a necessary expense for a good night's sleep.

Another thing to consider Ima is that some of us are working hard to pay debt while others of us on the forum are more established, etc. When I overcome my debt I will care much less about saving $10-$15 on my power bill. I will also dine out more, vacation, etc. -- all things that are, by necessity and plan, reined in at the moment.

I run the A/C at a relatively elevated 85 degrees and use fans to keep the air moving. I can deal with the heat well enough, but the local humidity is very high.

Ima Saver, we're on level billing, so honestly [cringing] I don't know. Leveling billing is $199 though. I JUST started this quest toward paying down debt though, so please don't yell at me about my A/C. [cringing again ] DH and I are both like Broken Arrow. We need the air to sleep at night. Our comfort zone is just a bit more rediculous. That and our upstairs is not 68 degrees. We have central air and it just doesn't get that cool upstairs. Upstairs feels closer to 74/76.

My mom used to skimp on air and I hated it! I swore I would not! Guess I kept my promise.

It's usually 88 but I'm not home much. Last night I treated myself and turned it down for a little while to 85, woo hoo! It's probably 10 degrees cooler downstairs. The cats seem to be surviving ...

I guess I don't see the point of buying a home with heat and AC if you aren't going to use it to be comfortable. My central A/C is on continuously at 70 -74 degrees. In the winter, we keep it 68-70. I am just not going to freeze all winter and bake all summer. I like an even, comfortable temp.

I have AC only in the bedroom and i leave it at 77, which is enough dry out and cool the air to something tolerable but won't cause the northeast to blackout again! Ceiling and box fans elsewhere help too.

Last month's electric bill was the first higher bill i had, for $80 something dollars. Not as bad as i thought, especially as they raised the rates.
