Default Does your state have a tax holiday?

Sales Tax Holidays

My state doesn't have a tax holiday. I am curious whether retailers increase their prices slightly since they know people want to take advantage of no taxes... Just a thought.

Sure does!

I finally grabbed a couple shirts I had been wanting for a while at Ross. 2 print shirts, 2 v necks, and 1 long sleeved jacket all under $30 due to the no tax!

This weekend is my boyfriend's birthday so Im using the $100 I saved to go clothes shopping with him. I find that none of the retailers are raising their prices, but they certainly are advertising the no sales tax to get people in.

In Duval County, FL the state sales tax is 7% so it makes a big difference here.

Nope, nothing in Utah. Occasionaly big car deals say they will pay your sales tax for you, but nothing like this...bummer.

We have a sales tax holiday during the first week of August. It's confined to clothing, school supplies, and computers under a given dollar amount. Nothing there I'm in the market to buy.

The categories are spelled out very specifically. Clothing, but not accessories. School supplies, but not art or craft materials. Computers, but not peripherals (printers, scanners, software, media).

Yep, everyday!!!

No sales tax in Oregon. (I think a couple of towns impose a 'snack' tax...but as far as sales tax, it's NADA!!!)

NC and SC have a school tax holiday, only for school supplies, but I am not sure how specific it is...I suppose I should pay attention, but I don't.

I personally think that the tax free holidays are a joke, all they do is over-crowd the stores with people wanting to save a few dollars and it creates a frenzy where you can't get the service that you should get from stores. I think that states should allow you to itemize all your school supplies at the end of the year when you do taxes, why should you have to pay tax later on to replace worn out school supplies.

sigh, how about they just stop taxing the money in ten different ways, we did pay taxes when we made the money...and the buisness that makes the stuff will pay taxes on what they make....and if we didn't spend it we would pay when we save it...some day their will be a coupon tax!

I am in FL and we've had them for back to school and hurricane supplies but I have not notice in price increase, I actually notice a lot more coupons in the mail for an extra 5,10 or 15% off. Iguess they're trying to get us to spend more
