I spent about $1000 on my five cats...that included the $300 eyeglasses one of the cats chewed up.

Re: What is the Dumbest Thing You Have Ever Spent Money on?
a home gym that looked great in the shop but has so many parts and is so complicated to put together that just thinking about it gives me a headache. It is taking up space in our shed. Half in and half out of the box.

Re: What is the Dumbest Thing You Have Ever Spent Money on?
The stupid futon bunk bed for about $200. It was so hard to put together after having to disassemble it for a move, it never got put together back again...
The $300+ I gave to my ex-boyfriend when he broke up with me a month later, a week after we moved in another house. That move cost me another $200 deposit. We both ended up moving out seperately a month later (oh well, the unpaid ulities were in his name).
(I made a good investment that summer signed up for Yahoo Personals and quickly met and married the man of my dreams!)
The drinking problem I used to have definitely cost me thousands!(quite last summer) I quite smoking this year...

Re: What is the Dumbest Thing You Have Ever Spent Money on?
B.A..
Okay, had to go back and see what I wrote! Okay, the dogs came before my budget days and as mentioned above they are less expensive then therpy. Have to have someone to take care of. I didn't have to pay for anything else for the trip to the bahamas. I designed the house my old boss built there and that trip, a week at the house, was completely a gift from him for the initial design and drawings. So $600.00 for a weeks trip to the bahamas is pretty good!
and...um....you got on the license plate thing....I think it's fun driving down the street trying to figure out what people are trying to say.....
and thus far I have completely resisted the urge to buy the SUV for hauling my beasts around and thus getting the license plates myself....but Ima's already got it made, and she's got the cool cars already to boot!

Some of those who are posting on this thread are beating themselves up about their dumb purchases. Come on, people! Don't be so hard on yourselves. We all make (made) mistakes. Think of all the good financial decisions you have made lately!

Re: What is the Dumbest Thing You Have Ever Spent Money on?
My husband started collecting beer cans about 28 years ago. He would buy the beer, open it on the bottom and pour it down the sink! Talk about dumb!! Anyone need about 700 empty cans of beer??

Actually, I think there's more laughter than tears here. When I think of some of the ego-driven extravagances of my past, all I can do is laugh. Cockeyed priorities and delusional thinking make for some screamingly funny scenarios. Today, older and (I hope) wiser, I can look back on my past silliness with amusement. Better yet, I can share it with you, and we can laugh together.
