I think that what Warren Buffet decided to do and give his money toward charity was a great thing to do and I hope that it inspires other to do the same. I have always had a goal to give away $1 million during my lifetime to others. While I have done a lot of this over time, I hope that in my later years, I'll have the opportunity to distribute a lot before I die.
No matter where you finances are now, I encourage you to think about how you would give away $1 million. Sit down and make a plan. Think and redo the plan over time. I have found that doing this has helped me so much in my saving. When I look at how I would like to give away my money and the good I think it can do, I find it much easier to resist temptations I know I don't need. How would you give away $1 million? |

Well the vet. teaching hospital at Athens, Ga. is committed to giving owners with very sick pets the care the animals need, whether the owners can afford it or not. My own dog stayed there for over 4 months after surgery and the bill was only $1200 for the surgery and everything. They called me every day to tell me about the dog because I was 4 hours away.
They have scholarships for those that cannot pay and I would like to sponsor 1 million dollars to help those people who love their animals but do not have the money. (I paid my bill, but many can't) |

I have several charities I give small amounts to every year - hopefully more when I get older.
Planned Parenthood Multiple Sclerosis Foundation I would also love to set up a trust to help my descendants with college expenses. My great aunt did that for us, and the $500 to 1000 we got every year was a huge help. I would love to leave a legacy like that for my family. |

Nice to dream about but I have to say it is just that, a dream.

I think a lot about this too. I only give away 2 or 3 % of my income each year, which doesn't feel like enough, but still, those are some of the best checks to write. I feel really good doing it, and feel like I'm benefiting myself as well as other people.
I wrote a giving plan a few months ago. Check it out here. |
