I HAVE Tried way too many times to help people out & it never works out most recently was the babysitting for my "friend"/single mom but she took advantage of it she asks me about everyday to babysit now when I havent even done it in over a year!! The last time she brought the kids with no diapers or anything & left them for along time!! I luckily have a daughter the same age so had diapers & all of that but after that I said screw this!!

I do when I can give to homeless shelters & our church when they take donations & stamp out hunger days & things like to people I will never meet KWIM I would rather help a stranger!!!

WOW. I can't believe how lucky you were and how kind this person is.
Sometimes I like to take a chance on people, too. Give them the benefit of the doubt, kwim?
Others around me always FREAK OUT though and call me naive when I do this, though.
Oh well. The good in my life def. out weights the bad. I'm ok w/ my
decisions.

I hope to be able to do that for someone someday. She took a chance on us. She loaned us about $5000 and we had a loan paper we wrote up between us and all that. I was so grateful and she was my first priority! even before the light bill sometimes. We are still friends.

When we were dating, I loaned my now-DH $360....he paid me back $180 and then we got married....to this day it is a standing joke that he married me to get out of paying off that debt!! And that we stay married just so he doesnt have to pay it back.!! lol

Well, I'm being burnt RIGHT NOW...I was stupid enought to take out a phone line IN MY NAME to put in my cousin's house...her son abused the line by making international phonecalls (1 to 2 hours EVERY DAY for 1 month)...the bill is $1,000 ...of course, she cannot pay it...but, of course, she's up-to-date with her Internet and cable TV bill! ($50/month)...because 1. "that keeps DS inside the house" and 2. "cable TV is the only enterntainment I have and it wouldn't be fair to disconnect it"...and, so, I have to find ways to cut MY expenses and those of MY child to pay for THEIR phone bill??...I imagine that is VERY fair in their minds, since I have a steady income and everything, and she doesn't because she's self-employed!

My DH's close relatives are always pleading poverty. They used "mom" to the biggest extent possible while bragging they never had to touch their savings while he was on strike. Before the strike, he was always borrowing money from DH and he made more than DH did! He recently sold property for a large profit. Yet, when they took at trip to Vegas, they complained there was nothing to do! All they do is complain that they didn't get enough money for the property. So, although they have used and abused family, they are not happy. What goes around comes around!
