Default Speaking of Warren Buffet , what do you all think of this?

I saw this episode on Oprah awhile back when they interviewed Warren Buffets granddaughter.......what do you all think about this? Just curious as I feel that he could have done a bit more for his family.

I remember seeing the episode a while ago. She seemed well adjusted and more "normal" than a lot of super rich kids. (Not much at all like Paris Hilton.) He did pay for the education of all of his grandkids. I respect his decision to spread the wealth through charity instead of keeping it all in the family.

I remember she had mentioned on Oprah about wanting to go on a trip, I can't remember if it was with her school or if it was with a friend but he would not give her the money to go......something about it wouldn't be fair to the kids who didn't have the money/couldn't go if he were to pay for her.

I think it is great his dicision to spread the wealth through charity just thought he could help his family a bit more but then again I really don't know much about his family life , only what I saw on Oprah and bits that I have been hearing lately.

I don't really know very much on the Johnson family either but Jamie Johnson seemed to turn out ok (only saw him on Oprah once, same episode as Warren Buffets granddaughter and I can't really go by that but he seemed ok)

I know his son worked for Berkshire Hathaway, in a fairly important position, I believe, and I am sure most family members have shares of that company

I saw that episode, and thought it was commendable that the children didn't just expect mucho dinero. Making your own way, I like it.

I love Warren Buffet but he can be a tad of a hypocrite sometimes. Mind you all three kids run a foundation in their name (3 kids, 3 foundations). How much you want to bet they get a salary as well to run it?

I agree, he is a fascinating man. I figure he made his money, he can spend it any way he wants. If he gives it all to Bill Gates, he can probably turn around and remake it!!
I agree, if she had wanted to go on a trip, why would she go to grandpa and not mom and dad?

Not to mention, Buffett is leaving each of those three foundations slightly more than $1 BILLION each.

I'm not sure if that makes him a hypocrite or not. Setting up charitable foundations is one way to evade *cough* er I mean save on taxes. I hear that he actually pays less on taxes than his secretary.

You heard that from Buffett himself. He was complaining that the recent years multiple rounds of tax cuts for the Rich & Corporate had him paying less taxes than his own secretary.
