You might be able to see it at a local church, temple or other place of worship; many are going to be showing it in the near future, with discussion groups afterwards.

I've been invited to see Al Gore at a local venue. I have been told by many friends to go check out "An Inconvenient Truth" but you know, the truth is inconvenient for Mr. Gore too -- it's disingenuous of him to serve up this kind of warning and not ask or answer:

Who is causing global warming?
Who BENEFITS from global warming?
Who has been governing our planet this way and why?
Who has suppressed alternative technologies resulting in our dependency on fossil fuels, and why?
Who has generated how much financial capital generated from this damage?
How do we recapture resources that have been criminally drained and use them to invest in restoring environmental balance?
Why are U.S. citizens choosing to elect and re-elect corporate puppets who sanction the continuing destruction of the planet?

Catherine Austin Fitts writes that the planet is being run by people who are intentionally killing it. Their power is their ability to offer all of us ways of making money by helping them kill it.

Me too. As an atheist, telling me to trust god means nothing. You might as well be telling me to trust the ice cream man. This discussion should be based on science, not religion.

As an environmental scientist, I can tell you three important truths: The debate is over among unbiased scientists. Global warming is real, and the scientists who disagree largely marginal and derive their funding from energy companies. Secondly, most scientists are not involved in policy making decisions--we are not often asked, because no one wants to hear the answers. Third, most environmental policies that are passed in congress are not advocated by environmental scientists, but rather are pushed by lobbiest and other special interest groups. So, the odds of congress passing laws that actually amount to something based on science are not good.

There are natural climate changes that occur throughout time. And, even if the earth is warming. How does not driving my car change that? There were more emissions put into the atmosphere when Mt St Helens erupted than all the cars in history.[/quote]

Yes, this is true. No environmental scientist will argue with this. It is a documented fact. However, what is alarming is the RATE at which the earth is warming. Never before has the earth warmed so quickly, and whether you like it or not, it IS linked to CO2, for many, many reasons. And yes, global warming can lead to an ice age or a very warm age, like the Jurassic period. If you all want to why or how, let me know (this is the subject of my master's thesis).

Is man causing global warming, or making a natural warming cycle worse? I don't know.

But all the junk we're pumping into the air, land, and water can't be a good thing and someday, in some way, it's going to bite us in the butt. And I'm pretty sure we won't be happy when (not if) that happens.

How can reducing polution be a BAD thing? Name one NEGATIVE thing from reducing pollution, other than "it costs money". Economics aside, what's the down side of less pollution?

I loved this movie. I left the theater wishing that everyone in the country would go see it. Unfortunately, I knew then (as I know now) that too many people would see "Al Gore" and rip on the movie without having ever seen it, simply because he is a Democratic political figure. It's too bad politics (and religion, apparently) play a part in this when it's about our EARTH.

I choose to believe what I can see and feel. The sun often seems white instead of yellow. The weather is royally screwed up - yeah, this is Minnesota, so it's always bizarre - but 80 degrees one day and 50 the next? Birds I've never seen in this part of the country before are suddenly showing up. When I visited the southern tip of Chile, my exposed skin felt like it was being pinpricked by a thousand tiny needles, even on an overcast day. Where my parents live, it doesn't rain in the summer anymore - all they get is hail storms.

Whether you want to hear it or not, the earth is changing, and not for the better. I find it hard to believe that humans aren't playing a part in it.
