and how wonderful that he left behind such great memories and set such a powerful example. I have both my parents still, but I have lost my only sibling (a brother), so I understand the void of losing someone you love so very much!

Your dad would be proud of the way you remember him...and would undoubtedly be proud of you too!

Thanks for sharing!

thanks thriftyray:
sorry about the loss of your brother... yeah, my dad was proud of me.. out of 5 kids, i am next to the baby... he told everyone, i was the only one he didn't have to worry about, i would get by... 3 of the siblings, have burned thru half of their inheritance, and my older sis is gonna semi retire from being an rn early, she is burning hers on trips.. i have every penny, didn't need it, did not expect it, he owed me nothing, he raised me, i learned so much from him.. i was financially secure already... i did expect to get his home, he told me to save and buy the other kids out,, i did, they agreed, and then they sold it for a loss to my older sisters friend.. ouch!!!! dad put in his will to get along and not fight.. so, i am upset with them still and they are avoiding me, because i am friends with my dad's friend yet.. they don't like certain ppl. and hold grudges, what a waste of time.. i look to the future.. and they all attend church more than i do.. they need to pay attention.....lol... the reason i was to get the house, was i used to be a realtor, i pledged my commission, on the sale of their mobile home, and on the land contract that purchased the land for the new house they built.. my dad paid us back over 3 yrs, in payments, plus we loaned him $16,500 to pay off the land.. without any interest and my spouse helped him do alot of the work on the house, while the other kids were too busy... anyways, bygones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i moved on, life is too short... recently, my older sis, stopped by and wanted me to buy the house from the guy they sold it too.. he obtained a thirty thousand equity loan on the house, besides what he paid us for it.. i proudly looked her in the eyes and said, crash and burn.....mean i know but, she is mean to care so much about the other guy and not dad's wishes and me, her sister...

Mark, I know what you are going thru. My sister was 9 years older than me, and when my father died, I was a child, so my mother put everything in my sister's name. My mother left a will that the house and money should be split 50/50 with me getting her car, but because everything was in my sister's name, she got everything including the house.
That was a long time ago and I have gotten over it. My sister left her husband and kids as soon as she got her hands on the money. We never spoke again. She had a pretty miserable life even with all the money and died 11 years ago.

thanks for your compassion.. sorry, about your sister... i use money as a tool.. i do not love money...greed can ruin a person... money only makes life easier... we need a balance of difficult and easy, i think.. the yin and the yang... i have rich pals, and they cheat on their spouses, don't pay independent contractors, stingy b--------, and are so unhappy........... i will take happy and fun anyday..
btw.. my friend marlene is married to a dentist and he beats her up, and then buys her expensive stuff and apologizes.... and she just learned he is cheating on her... i figured that already.. she is a beautiful woman... i would half kill him if he beat me up... she needs help and will not get it.. i do not feel sorry for her for being a victim.. when she calls me, we do not talk about dan anymore.. he is a loser..

Just goes to show...money does not 'buy' happiness.

That said...i was watching a show on America's lake Homes last night...and with enough money, I could be happy in one of those homes ...

However, I am content here... However, I am content here...However.....

No money does not buy happiness. I am sorry to hear about your friend, Mark. I had problems with abuse in my first marriage and I got out. The fact that a 6 foot seven inch guy can hit a 5 foot 2 inch wife sure shows that he is not a man!!
I have had a wonderful happy almost 30 years with my husband and money is really not an issue in our life. We just buy what we need and want what we have!

Talking Re: To any Fathers on this Site

i don't know thriftyray... it always seems the grass is greener on the other side........et said home... home.. home... and there is no place like home.... we have a friend who just purchased a new lakefront home, she works for msft.. and low and behold, they just transferred her to another state... her spouse, will have to begin the sale process... and she was not happy with the house, cuz, new neighbors moved into the new house next door with 2 boys, both under 10... she does not like kids.. she only likes her 3 dogs and her new hubby has a 19 yr. old son, who stays in and out of trouble.. her spouse confides in me and spouse.. we just listen to him.. he does not sound happy at all. with the new house either..
btw... i think it is change, that we are seeking... i have had 2 new homes built the way i want and home is where your heart is... i can live anywhere and be happy... lucky that way.
now for me.. i would like to be a forest ranger or space travel....being a pilot must be the ultimate... my unkie used to teach about missiles and was involved in the shuttle recovery program.. so, i love to hear him talk....or maybe a firefighter... my grandpa invented some firefighting equipement and sold for a company too.. he was also the mayor... so, i would like to explore those things. rambling today....... sorry...........................too much to do and so little time.

good for you... getting out is the smart thing to do... i have told marlene for what she has to go thru and put up with.. it is just not worth it... she is a good beautician, she can get her old job back and grandpa duke will help her.. but, she has to help herself and get over dan.. he will not change.

Even if they change ( and mine did after I stood up to him and moved out) , you no longer have any respect for them. You can't be happy with someone you don't respect. I feel sorry for your friend, but she has to make the decision.
